BRINE MANTRA IV TRAINING DAY WITH KELLY RABIL Fitness a way of life for Brine Elite and Team USA veteran


Kelly Rabil does not need to look far for motivation. Whether it’s her husband and lacrosse god Paul Rabil, their hyperactive mini golden doodle Remy, her U.S. teammates in the Baltimore area or the throngs of spinners and yogis who show up for her fitness classes, she is surrounded by people who get up and go.


That lifestyle allowed Rabil to qualify for her first U.S. World Cup team in 2013 after three knee surgeries and barely missing out on the 2009 squad. Rabil, who signed an endorsement deal with Brine and New Balance in April, let US Lacrosse cameras follow her on a hot summer day in August as she ramped up her training in pursuit of another World Cup appearance in 2017.


6:30 a.m.


Wake up. Drink coffee and watch the “Today” show for a few minutes to catch up on what’s going on in the world.


7:30 a.m.


Head to the gym. Get a Jay Dyer workout in. One day a week, I will report to his gym specifically and catch up with my girl Ally Carey to get a workout in together.


10 a.m.


A little downtime after the gym before I head to teach a spin class or Barre around noon. During this time, I make a big breakfast (eggs, waffles, turkey bacon, OJ and some more coffee), catch up on a few emails and get myself set for the rest of the day ahead.


12 p.m.


Get after it with a motivated group for spin or Barre, followed by some lunch and maybe catch up with some girls for a bit of girl time. Lunch ranges from day to day, but I usually grab a salad from Sweet Green or Nalley Fresh or maybe even a couple tacos from Chipotle.


2 p.m.


Entertain Remy with his frisbee, answer emails and do some school work before my next fitness class, Barre or boot camp.


5 p.m.


Teach a rocking class. 7 p.m.


Home for a good dinner and ready for some quiet and sofa time.


Being able to work with Brine on the development of a head specific to my position was a no-brainer. They have such a history in lacrosse innovation and it was exciting to see the Mantra IV come to life. When it’s hot, when it’s wet, or when it’s snowing, the Mantra IV just performs, and that dependability is what you need in a stick. The Vari-Flex technology keeps the head stiff in the summer months when we are training for Team USA and the Grid-Flex X gives me pocket consistency from top to bottom for unmatched ball control no matter what situation I run into on the field.


KEEP IT FRESH


I love to run, and I love to spin. I like to lift. But I try to go into the gym every morning and do something different to have my body react to it. I teach a lot of fitness classes, and then I also work with my own trainer, coach Jay Dyer. Barre and spin give me a challenge much different than a lacrosse workout. It gives my mind and body a bit of a break. I love to sweat, and if I can do it while helping others achieve the goal they are reaching for, I am in!

DYER STRAITS


After a good dynamic warm-up, Jay usually starts us with agility work through a ladder or with some hurdles. Then we will go into cone drills with more running involved, making the drill feel very game-like, working on my start, explosiveness, breakdown and change of direction. We usually finish with a 300-yard shuttle run, one blowout most likely — fingers crossed no more than that, but you never know.
