FROM THE PRESIDENT JO ANN ROONEY, JD, LLM, EdD
I am delighted to have begun my tenure as the 24th president of Loyola Univer- sity Chicago. Since my official arrival on August 1, I have been making my way around our
beautiful campuses to meet as many Loyolans as I can and I will continue to do so. My focus these initial months is to learn all that I can about today’s Loyola. Through meetings with
students, faculty, staff, administrators, deans, and others, I am cultivating a deep understanding about this robust institution. Our Jesuit, Catholic mission and the ways in which that mission inspires not just our curriculum and programs but the people who study, teach, and work at Loyola continues to exhila- rate me. This mission and passion has transformed Loyola from a good institution to a great one, and it will continue to be at the core of all we do and who we are. We are in a strong position to address challenges that face us and all institutions of higher education
thanks to the hard work and dedication of so many here at Loyola and a history of strong leadership. As we enthusiastically welcome the largest freshman class in our history this fall, we commit ourselves to taking a critical look at internal and external forces that impact our educational enterprise and our fiscal stewardship. We will challenge ourselves to be more innovative and more strategic so that we are recognized as educational leaders in our complex, dynamic global society. With your support and engagement, we can indeed change the world and build the more just, humane, and sustainable world that we have committed ourselves to doing with our strategic plan, Plan 2020. I am very grateful for the warm welcome I have received at Loyola University Chicago and I look forward to beginning the academic year as a member of this extraordinary Loyola community.
