News Southwest Rural Electric Association June 2016

Co-op members who have a smart phone or tablet should download SWRE’s app! The app is available for Apple devices (free at the iTunes app store site) or Android devices (free at the Android app store site). At those app sites, search for “Southwest Rural Electric” to locate the SWRE app for download. The app contains multiple features that can be very useful for members.

Volume 63

Safety, Service, Satisfaction... One Member at a Time! Number 6

SWRE app contains great features reminders.

The map shows outlines of the 11 counties that are served by SWRE. A touch or click shows how many SWRE accounts are located in each county and how many accounts the system projects to be out of service. Colored circles show locations of outages.

Reporting Outages When outages happen, it is important that co-op members report those outages to be sure that the co-op is aware of them. SWRE members can continue to report their outages with a telephone call to 1-800-256-7973. Now, though, outages can also be reported via the SWRE app. Reporting outages with the app is easy! Members will need to log in with their account and if they have more than one SWRE meter, they will need to designate which meter is out.

If they sign up for “Alerts and Reminders”, they will receive an e-mail, text, or push notification verifying that their outage notice has been received by SWRE. This ability to report outages via app by cell phone or connected tablet will be particularly useful in widespread outages when co-op phone lines are busy.

Outage Map A brand new feature on the app is an outage map. It can be opened by touching the “Outage Map” icon at bottom right of the app screen.

The outage map can also be accessed at SWRE’s web site: www.swre.com.

Online Bill Pay

Many SWRE

members regularly use the app to pay their SWRE bills, set up bill-pay reminders, and monitor electricity usage – all from their smart phone, tablet, or the SWRE website (www.swre.com).

Members may also set up “Auto-Pay”, enabling their bill to automatically charge each month to a credit card. They may receive alerts when bills are due or when payment has been received. From the app, co-op members can examine past electricity usage by the day. Online Bill Pay from the SWRE web site allows even more detailed analysis of power usage by each account.

Notices and Reminders From the app, SWRE members can set up numerous alerts and

For instance, members can choose to receive an alert to their cell phone at work when SWRE knows that power to their home account has gone off. They can also

receive an alert when power has been restored. Members can choose to receive an e-mail notice when their SWRE bill is due, or they can receive an alert when a usage

threshold (which they determine) has been surpassed.

Paperless Billing Paperless Billing is a great new feature that is now available through the SWRE app or SWRE “Pay Bill Online” at the website (www.swre.com)!

Instead of or in addition to a traditional paper bill, SWRE members may elect to receive their bills by e-mail.

The bill will be sent to the

member’s designated e-mail address and will contain a link to the bill pay screen -- Easy and convenient!

Creating an Online Account To use the app, SWRE members must first create an online account for access.

They can do this in the app, but several items MUST match data that is on file with SWRE: 1. The primary account holder’s social security number (last four digits); 2. The primary telephone number; and 3. The primary account holder’s e-mail address. If any of these have changed, SWRE must be notified before creation of an online account can proceed.

Reporting an outage via app is easy.
