If two young ladies from Vinita, Oklahoma, tell you they are “living the dream,” they aren’t just pulling your leg. You

see, for Calli Newman and Shyanne Marco e, those are not just empty words.

The two ladies were awarded some pres gious honors a er a challenging week of compe  on during last summer’s Miss Rodeo Oklahoma Pageant. Both Newman and Marco e will tell you that what resulted from their par cipa on in the pageant, held in July 2016 in Oklahoma City, was nothing short of a dream come true.

Newman, a 24-year-old college student from Vinita, was crowned the 2017 Miss Rodeo Oklahoma, while Marco e, a 12-year-old junior high school student from Vinita, was crowned 2017 Miss Rodeo Oklahoma Princess. Corona on took place July 23 during a ceremony held at the Na onal Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

“It has always been a goal of mine to just have an opportunity to compete at the Miss Rodeo Oklahoma pageant. It was only a dream that I would actually become Miss Rodeo Oklahoma,” Newman said. “Working hard and fi nding a team of individuals helped me reach my dream. Through my reign I hope to encourage anyone that anything is possible—even dreams—if you are willing to work hard enough.”

Newman is currently a ending Rogers State University. She will graduate from RSU in May with a Bachelor's in Business Administra on with an Accoun ng op on. She is a resident of Vinita, and graduated from Vinita High School in 2011.

Although she is a decorated rodeo compe tor with a lengthy list of accomplishments, one of which she is especially proud is her par cipa on in the Calgary Stampede Cowboy Up Challenge, held yearly in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

“It is the richest Extreme Cowboy Racing event in the world, and a ended by invita on only,” said Newman. “I have been compe ng in Extreme Cowboy Racing for two years, and have three world  tles on my horse, Berry Bay Banjo. It is demanding sport that combines nearly every equestrian event into one.”

Being crowned the 2017 Miss Rodeo Oklahoma is an impressive accomplishment. The Miss Rodeo Oklahoma Pageant is a week-long compe  on with a number
