Held in Washington, D.C. AFS presented Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pennsylvania), and
Reps. Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio) and Bill Huizenga (R-Michigan) with the Metalcasting Industry Eagle Award during the industry’s Government Aff airs Conference in Washington, D.C. T is award is presented annually to lawmakers who support Congressional policies that enhance the ability of U.S. metalcasters to innovate, create jobs and fi ght back against burdensome and costly regulations that hurt the industry. Over 65 metalcasters from around the country partici- pated in the annual AFS Government Aff airs Conference on May 18-19 to learn about the critical legislative and regula- tory issues facing the industry and then take metalcasting’s message to Capitol Hill. Metalcasters participated in more than 90 meetings with Congressional offi ces across 19 states, detailing the industry’s position on key issues. The conference keynote speaker was Charlie Cook,
who analyzed the 2016 presidential election and the cur- rent political climate. Cook is one of the nation’s lead- ing authorities on U.S. elections and American political trends and has been featured on the ABC, CBS, and NBC evening news programs. Additional presenters included:
• Tom Slavin, Slavin OSH Group LLC, and Brad Ham- mock, Jackson Lewis, who presented an extensive update on OSHA’s Silica PEL Rule and the next steps for metalcasters.
• Tressi L. Cordaro, Jackson Lewis, who presented on OSHA enforcement issues facing metalcasters.
• Joel Visser, Sidley Austin, Ross Eisenberg, National Association of Manufacturers, and Daniel Simmons, Institute for Energy Research, who led an EPA panel with an update on greenhouse gas regulations for power plants and ozone.
• William Malley and Don Baur, Perkins Coie, who hosted a panel on the importance of rebuilding U.S. infrastruc- ture, the passage of the FAST Act and its impact on met- alcasting, and the new EPA law Waters of the U.S.
