On Campaign Trail, Hillary Clinton Visits UNI Metal Casting Center On Dec. 9, 2015, former First Lady


and current Democratic candidate for president Hillary Clinton visited the University of Northern Iowa Metal Casting Center (MCC) at the Cedar Valley, Iowa TechWorks campus in Waterloo, Iowa. T ere, she saw UNI’s Additive Manufacturing Center, which includes the biggest 3-D printer in North America. Clinton, the one-time Secretary


of State, went on a tour led by Jerry T iel, director, UNI MCC. Students from UNI’s MCC also attended and answered questions for Clinton. “Wow, that was impressive, and it


was exciting to see what is happening right here in this area because of the great partnership between the Univer- sity of Northern Iowa and Hawkeye Community College,” Clinton said during a town hall in Waterloo, accord- ing to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier.


Automotive Metalcaster Receives Tax Incentives for Expansion


In December, the Michigan


Economic Development Corp., Lan- sing, Michigan, approved a tax-free district around the planned expanded campus in Detroit for Sakthi Auto- motive Group USA Inc., a division of India’s Sakthi Group. T e so- called “renaissance zone” means the aluminum casting facility will be able to waive $169,000 in average annual property taxes for 15 years, according to the Michigan Economic Develop- ment Corp. Sakthi, which broke ground on the expansion in October 2015, plans to invest $33 million by December 2018 in the project, the MEDC said. T e supplier, owned by India’s Sakthi Group, is expected to add 313 jobs by 2018 and 333 in total. According to the MEDC, Sakthi


chose Michigan over competing off ers from states such as Georgia, Ohio and South Carolina, states which off ered incentives that includ- ed free land, low-interest construc- tion loans and tax credits. ■
