From the staff of The Lutheran

Changes on the way D

The Lutheran is the magazine of the ELCA

ear readers, Thanks for your letters of appreciation for Daniel J. Lehmann, who retired as editor in February. As staff of The Lutheran we, too, have been

deeply blessed by Dan’s wisdom and faithful service to our church. As we move forward, the magazine will continue to belong to the members

of the ELCA in all of our diversity. We will continue to share the good news of Jesus Christ through feature stories, reflections, news and information, resources, theological insights and so much more. In the past 28 years, the magazine has gone through three mastheads and

several redesigns. And through the years, The Lutheran has been filled with stories of congregations making a positive impact in the face of challenge. Together we’ve carried on, trusting in our crucified and risen Lord. But transformation and change in both our church and world is constant.

This edition of The Lutheran magazine will be the last under this name. Begin- ning with the April issue, the magazine will be called Living Lutheran. A new accompanying website, www.LivingLutheran.org, will also debut in April. What do these changes mean to you? You can continue to expect a cover

story and features that lift up the mission and ministries of our church through our congregations, synods and churchwide organization. You can expect to receive news, information and resources. Our departments will still feature “Deeper understandings,” reflections, the presiding bishop’s column and more. New departments will include a family page, featured resources and digital media. The accompanying website will offer content original to it, such as blogs from various voices in the church and breaking news. While the magazine’s design and masthead will change, we are commit-

ted to providing a consistent editorial voice and high journalistic standards. Under interim editor Jocelyn Fuller, the magazine staff will continue to gener- ate content with integrity and fairness. We thank you, readers, for your input and responses to surveys that have influenced our changes. There is deep excitement among magazine staff, who look forward to shar- ing the stories of God’s love through the magazine of the ELCA. 
