Foundations of Reading Instruction This session lays the groundwork for understanding the process of learning to read. The science of reading and current research are presented in an interactive format. Participants leave this session understanding how the neural pathways for reading are formed, what systematic, explicit instruction really means, and how Superkids instruction applies research findings. This session is targeted to primary teachers but is applicable to intermediate teachers who want to better understand beginning reading or reading intervention. Administrators and support personnel are encouraged to attend.
Maximum number of participants: 40 Grade-Level Meetings
These meetings are designed to gather Superkids teachers together to share successes and address identified areas of need (for example, differentiated instruction, Daily Routines, or pacing). A professional development specialist will do a needs assessment prior to the meeting to determine areas of focus.

Coaching Visits Coaching visits include in-classroom observations and feedback, with one-on-one support for each teacher, focusing on best practices for maximum results from the program. Two coaching visits are recommended for each teacher new to Superkids, and at least one coaching visit is recommended for all experienced Superkids teachers. Teachers will also receive unlimited phone and e-mail support.
Superkids Leaders Training After the first year of implementation, schools or districts may wish to pursue a customized Train-the-Trainer program whereby Superkids staff train district literacy leaders to support teachers in their district. Leadership training is custom-designed to take place over one or two years with three leadership sessions per year. Additional coaching for Superkids Leaders may be added to the training to deepen the knowledge and understanding of the leaders in training.
