NCGA/CIF High School Girls Championship The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch | Nov. 9

St. Francis of Mountain View

became just the second girls golf team to win three straight Northern California High School Championships, shoot- ing a 49-over 409 in miserable conditions to beat San Ramon’s Daugherty Valley and Concord’s Carondelet by six strokes. St. Francis of Sacramento

is the only other school to accomplish the feat, winning four straight from 1999 to 2002, and another four from 2006 to 2009. Those eight overall titles are also a record. St. Francis of Mountain View’s three titles are second all- time, breaking a previous tie with Monte Vista of Danville. St. Francis of Mountain View

was led by a 74 from Bibilani Liu and a 78 by Maya Pugatch. Two-time defending Junior

Tour Girls Player of the Year Sabrina Iqbal of San Jose’s Pioneer was the co-medalist with Samantha Gong of St. Ignatius after both posted impressive 72s on a day where 79 was good enough to qualify for State. At State, Manhattan Beach’s

Mira Costa shot 36-over 391 at Poppy Hills to beat runner up Walnut by three and clinch its first title. Alyaa Abdulghany of Corona Del Mar in Newport Beach won the individual title by two with a women’s course record of 2-under 69. Angela Liu of Lynbrook and Calista Reyes of Rancho Bernado both shot even par.

Iqbal defended her 2014

State win with a 78 to tie for 19th. But with her win the pre- vious week, she became the only player to capture both NorCals and State in her career.

NCGA Team The NCGA won the Nassau-style

Seaver Cup over the SCGA for the third straight time, running away with an over- whelming 44-28 victory to take a 4-3-2 overall lead in the series. The biennial Seaver Cup pits the best

players from the NCGA and SCGA, with each side playing four-ball, four- some and singles matches. Each match has a potential three points up for grabs—the front nine, back nine and 18 holes.

The NCGA entered the singles matches with a 21.5-14.5 lead before

pulling away in singles, winning the front nine 6.5-5.5, the back nine 8.5-3.5 and the 18 holes 7.5-4.5. The NCGA winning team included:

Jason Anthony, Dale Bouguennec, Steven Chung, Matt Cohn, Terry Foreman, Randy Haag, Jim Knoll, Nick Moore, Ben Peters, Michael Tolladay, Gary Vanier and Jeff Wilson. The Cup is named after Charlie

Seaver, who once held the NCGA, SCGA and California Amateur champi- onships at the same time between 1933 and 1934.
