Handling the 1st Tee Jitters


One of the hardest walks in golf is from the practice area to the first tee, especially when playing for a national championship in front of thousands of spectators. Here are the keys to starting your round on a positive note.

Take a deep breath, exhale slowly and focus on the task at hand. At address, avoid freez-


ing over the ball by waggling the club and jostling your feet. Great players stare at the target and glance at the ball. Bad players stare at the ball and glance at the target. Complete your shoulder turn and swing without abandonment, then let it fly!


KEYS TO A PROPER WAGGLE


Elevate the club using your elbows then circle the clubhead behind and above the ball using your wrist joints, while keeping your arms in front of your body. Don’t be afraid to jostle your feet and stare at the target, making sure these moves are slow, smooth and tension free.
