NUI Galway’s President’s Award for Students When you volunteer with ALIVE, at the end of the academic year you will receive an ALIVE Certificate at the special NUI Galway Presidential Awards for Volunteering Ceremony. This experience can contribute to your personal development and is a great addition to any CV. The ALIVE Certificate recognises your volunteering at home, in Galway, abroad or on campus, including: Student Connect Mentoring, Societies, Clubs, Access, Class Reps and within Community Organisations and charities.


Volunteering Opportunities As an NUI Galway student, you can volunteer with a wide variety of community organisations for about one hour a week including: - Youth Work Ireland Galway - Galway Simon Community - Enable Ireland - Childline - Cancer Care West

Overseas Volunteering Opportunities Not only are there hundreds of opportunities to volunteer locally in Galway but there is a whole world of international volunteer opportunities. ALIVE connects NUI Galway students to reputable overseas programmes in Asia, Latin America, Africa and across Europe. Spend your summer months or even a year engaging with young people in Italy, building projects in Haiti, cultural programmes in Northern Ireland, a sponsored climb of Mount Everest in Nepal, animal preservation in South America or teaching in India. Volunteering your time, skills, and energy with any one of thousands of global organisations, issues, or causes, all helps to make a contribution within communities around the world. NUI Galway’s newspaper and radio station are always looking for new contributors throughout the year. No matter what your background you might have an interest in news reporting, feature-writing, sports, films, events reviews.


Flirt FM Galway has its own student radio station, Flirt FM based in NUI Galway; it broadcasts weekdays, year round, taking short breaks for Christmas, Easter and August. The radio provides full coverage of important campus events from the SU Elections to the University themed weeks. If you’re interested in volunteering call in, they are located just behind the Socs Box in Áras na Mac Léinn, sign up for training on their website. Sin Newspaper Sin Newspaper is one of Ireland’s oldest Student Newspapers and is the only Student Newspaper for NUI Galway’s 17,000 students.
