UKSG heads to south coast T

he English coastal resort of Bournemouth will play host to this years’ UKSG Annual Conference and Exhibition. The conference is a major event in the scholarly communications calendar and attracts more than 900 delegates each year from around the world – librarians, publishers, content providers, consultants and intermediaries. The conference, which will be had at the Bournemouth International Centre from 11 to 13 April, combines high-quality plenary presentations, lightning talks and breakout sessions with entertaining social events and a major trade exhibition, for which space is already sold out.

Presentations will include:

l Managing relationships between libraries and publishers for greater impact, by Ann Rossiter from the Society of College, National and University Libraries;

l How far has the UK got towards open access and what have been the costs and implications? by consultant Michael Jubb;

l Data diving: understanding cause and effect in reputation management, by Charlie Rapple of Kudos; and

l Collaborative partnerships to address preservation challenges at scale, by Stephanie Orphan of Portico.

UKSG’s mission is to connect the knowledge community and encourage the exchange of ideas on scholarly communication. It says it is the UK’s only organisation spanning the wide range of interests and activities across the scholarly information community of librarians,

publishers, intermediaries and technology vendors.

There will also be a drinks reception on the first day of the event, with the Conference Dinner being held on Tuesday 12th April. www.uksg.org/event/conference16

Organisers say the conference will continue to be a regular event in London in February each year, and with the support of the academic publishing community, it will
