ovember is here and the pace of life revs up—if we let it. Take a deep breath and sign up for

a Stress Reduction seminar. Or try a new yoga or meditation class. You will fi nd many options within these pages, especially in the calendar section. It is so easy to get caught up in the commercialism of the season. We need to “unplug” and focus on gifts, of creativity, instead of rushing out to frantically buy

the latest hot item. Most of us will agree: the best gifts are the ones that come from the heart and are uniquely handmade. Adopt an Attitude of Gratitude for everything in life. As

Thanksgiving approaches, we are led to consider just what makes us grateful. The basic necessities of food and shelter and someone(s) to love are givens for most of us. So for us the question goes deeper.

Of course, we are thankful for the freedoms our country assures, especially this month to choose our own leaders and worship as we please. Also, for the opportunities for education, the right to choose whom we love, the chance to work and maintain our independence. For many who are struggling today in low paying—or loss of—jobs, gratitude may not be so easy. Be mindful of those who need extra help. See pages 20-21 for many ways to donate to your local food bank. Every little bit (whether purchased items or your time as a volunteer) helps. This is a good time of year to ask “What is my passion and

how can I pursue it?” This very question is bringing untold numbers of displaced workers to a new place, a place of discovery, which might never before have been possible. (See pages 14 and 24 for tips and encouragement.) Seeking this answer which will satisfy and bring new fulfi llment will, for many, make the present struggle worthwhile. May unexpected options and opportunities bring a new sense of gratitude and an enriched life!
