GETTING TO KNOW OUR STAFF…

REBECCA KIRK Rebecca Kirk

How long have you worked for Holstein UK and what positions have you held within the company?

I have worked for Holstein UK for more than a year now having started as Events Assistant and National HYB Coordinator. My role now includes website and social media manager, as well as UK Dairy Day assistant.

What does your role involve?

My predominant role is looking after HYB; organising the events and trying to push it forward with international recognition and encouraging new members into the Society. I am also kept busy over the summer months attending shows where I try to encourage new members by promoting Holstein UK services and chatting to current members. For the past six months I have managed the content of the website and social media and I am currently heavily involved in the construction of the new Holstein UK website.

What’s the most

challenging part of your role?

I would probably say trying to juggle lots of different tasks at the same time successfully. As a longstanding member myself, I have a passion for Holsteins and the Society and it's of paramount importance to me that we do the very best for our members, which can sometimes bring challenges.

What’s the most exciting

part of your role? I love to watch Championship tap-out’s at the shows, seeing happy exhibitors and spectators is a real buzz. I also love to be involved with presenting HYB members with awards and rosettes, particularly the Field to Foto competition and All Breed All Britain Calf Show. Taking teams abroad to represent Holstein UK and HYB at international shows and competitions is also a great honour.

How well do you get on with your boss?

90% of the time we get on well!

How do you relax? I love to go out for a good gallop on the horse, sometimes assisted with a flask of Port. I also love to get back in the parlour for a quiet milking.

One interesting fact not many people would know about you? I once had trials for Leicester City Ladies Football Club as a defender. Needless to say, I was unsuccessful.

Favourite meal? I love all Italian food...and chocolate.

Favourite film? I’m not ashamed to admit that I am a massive Harry Potter fan.

Who is your favourite celebrity?

Gerard Butler – for obvious reasons.

Five people from the industry you’d invite for dinner?

Simon Lalande and Kim Cote (Blondin Prefix) for having some of the best Red and White cows in the world including the Redman Seisme; my all time favourite cow. His Grace the Duke of Westminster (Cogent), he is a fantastic speaker and has achieved so much for UK Genetics. David Handley (Farmers for Action) and Meurig Raymond (NFU President) to sort the job out.

What would you do with £1m?

Buy £1m worth of Prosecco.
