village and was realised as part of an ongoing partnership between DreamWorks Animation and operator Merlin Entertainments. The 5,000 square metre themed area celebrates the animated moie franchise, the latest instalment of which – Kung Fu Panda 3 – opened in Italian cinemas on March 17. “This year we decided to aim at families, one of our most loyal targets” higlights Gardaland CEO, Aldo Maria

Kung Fu Master, by Fabbri, is the star attraction of the new themed area

ocated towards the far end of the park in Castelnuovo del Garda (near Lake Garda), the new Kung Fu Panda Academy is themed to resemble an authentic Chinese

Vigevani. “Kung Fu Panda is a familiar character for 90% of Italian children aged between 8 and 10 years of age.” At Kung Fu Panda Academy, Gardaland guests can

explore the world of Po the panda and his friend Tigress. The main attraction is Kung Fu Panda Master, a 320m-long spinning coaster manufactured less than100km away by the Fabbri Group. The wild mouse style attraction (catalogue name Power Mouse/Spinning Madness) features six cars that reach a top speed of 40km as they twist and turn along the ride's bright red track. Hourly capacity is 720, according to the manufacturer. Each ride lasts 100 seconds from start to finish, but to pass

the considerably longer time they will have to wait in line during busy periods, passengers can test their martial arts skills on a crocodile-shaped totem, a wooden bridge or some punch bags. Relocated from elsewhere in Gardaland is Mr Ping's Noodle Surprise, a tea cup ride from Huss, now appearing inside a nice new pagoda building. Beneath another pagoda, children can meet the Po and

Tigress in a short show tthat teaches them the most important kung-fu moves. Also featured as part of the Kung Fu Panda Academy offering are a gift shop, sushi restaurant and a selection of midway games operated by HB Leisure. Park attendance in 2015 was up by 3.5% to 2,850,000 and a futher increase is expected this season thanks to the opening of the new area and also a second hotel at the Gardland Resort (see over the page).
