shooting and collecting arrows. Fencing goes down really well being sufficiently combative without being dangerous and requiring dexterity, quick reactions and an element of discipline if you are to succeed, and importantly most find this to be a great fun sport. Wall climbing is a great challenge that many have never tried but is not for everyone, body shape having a considerable influence on achievement as well as the fear factor unnerving some. Having six people climbing at once on auto-belays around the wall

Where there is a handy stretch of water, a

canal, slow river or small lake, open canoeing is a great all inclusive activity suiting any shape or size and loads of fun. Our idea is to get people involved, engaged and enjoying themselves, working together, listening to each other, offering up ideas, increasing confidence and awareness of their abilities, and, oh yes, they’re incidentally getting fit and healthy in the process. Raising awareness of the opportunities around us is crucial to tackling the problem of obesity.

keeps a group very active with much less standing around, giving everyone an opportunity to push themselves physically. The great thing about climbing is that it exercises every part of your body. We always take along a small, low level bouldering wall so enabling less adventurous, maybe less brave people to have a go, then perhaps they are confident enough to try the bigger wall. We have a range of a dozen team building

activities, some requiring careful planning and co- operation, others requiring clear logical thought processes, but all involving physical activity and movement, and again, vitally, really absorbing fun.

When travelling the country we try to make people aware of the various clubs active in their area as most people have no idea they can take up sports such as archery, fencing, climbing and canoeing locally. It seems mainstream sports such as football, rugby and cricket are seen as readily available but people don’t really know these other activities are there to be experienced. Hopefully as schools continue to introduce

students to a great range of fun and challenging outdoor activities brought to their location it will encourage them to get involved, choose what they would like to get involved in, find a club locally so they can pursue their new found passion, so keeping fit while having loads of fun!
