ATAG

ATAG Commercial’s condensing gas boilers can be enhanced with its suite of heating controls. Its fl agship controller is the BrainQ. In contrast to a standard timer thermostat, this ensures the boiler burns at low power, even once the set temperature has been reached, so heat remains constant. For boilers in a cascade system and for systems requiring separate zone control, ATAG off ers the MadQ, which can be wall mounted or inserted into a boiler’s front panel. As a cascade controller, the unit incorporates individual boiler control and automatic boiler switching for up to eight boilers. As a zone controller, it can manage up to three separate zones. Finally, WiZe is a programable modulating thermostat for extra effi ciency and comfort. It adjusts to determine when the boiler must fi re up in the morning to reach the required temperature on time.

RINNAI

Rinnai Infi nity Solo condensing and low NOx water heater is said to be the fi rst of its kind in the UK to combine the advanced technology of low NOx wall mounted continuous fl ow water heaters with a stainless steel storage cylinder, all in one compact footprint. The design parameters of this product allow specifi ers, designers, installers and engineers to benefi t from

unique Rinnai technology in applications where it was once not possible. For instance, the Infi nity Solo features both 35kW and 54kW sized appliances, ensuring sites with a smaller gas meter can readily use this technology. The larger Infi nity Solo model will also act as a high-effi ciency alternative to gas fi red storage appliances that exist in today’s market. The cylinders are stainless steel with extremely low heat loss fi gures (as low as 1.41kWh/day).

WATERLOO

Exposed ceilings are often specifi ed as architects like the industrial aesthetic. Waterloo Air Products has designed a Blanking Collar that keeps the purity of the design but maintains performance. Mat Southgate of Waterloo said: “Air diff usion swirls are designed for standard ceilings, so if they’re fi tted into a room with an exposed ceiling they don’t give the right performance level. We can add a coanda plate; performance goes up, but it’s quite big and compromises the industrial look. To fi nd an alternative, we recreated an exposed ceiling at our in- house lab in Kent. We were able to develop the optimum combination of performance and aesthetics. The result is a small device that is designed to be easily added to the swirls. It’s a great solution, because it looks so good and it doesn’t detract from the exposed ceiling.”

MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC

Mitsubishi Electric has added new 150kW and 180kW modules to its range of high effi ciency, inverter-driven, e-series modular chillers to expand the ‘off -the-shelf’ off ering to the UK market. The e-series off ers low noise levels and exceptional part-load effi ciencies with an operating range between 8-100% capacity to

provide controllable cooling and heating with reduced plant size and a host of features and benefi ts. Available as cooling-only or heat pump versions, the new modules included a Y-shaped design to increase intake of air and off er a greater heat exchanger surface area for highly effi cient operation. With four inverter compressors operating as two pairs in each module and the ability to connect up to six modules into one system, the e-series chillers are the perfect solution.

TOSHIBA

Toshiba Air Conditioning has launched an updated website that gives customers quick access to the company’s comprehensive range of product support, training and technical resources. Resources include Toshiba’s online commissioning and warranty tool which holds data on project installations, including dates, equipment and spare parts, plus commissioning records

with details of engineers involved at each stage. Registered users can also view an installation’s service history and check refrigerant charge data, useful for meeting F-Gas reporting requirements. The website gives access to Toshiba’s new training portal, enabling installers to book online courses and classroom-based technical training. Engineers can set up an individual account which automatically records details of courses successfully completed.

REMEHA

Remeha Gas 220 Ace high effi ciency condensing boilers have been specifi ed at a new digital and media centre in Carmarthen due to their high operational effi ciencies and proven reliability. Canolfan S4C Yr Egin is the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s new creative hub, and the new headquarters for Welsh language broadcaster S4C. David Airey, lead mechanical engineer at McCann & Partners, specifi ed the Remeha Gas 220 Ace as the preferred boiler to meet Part L requirements of building regulations: “We have specifi ed Remeha boilers on other projects and they have consistently proved reliable. Achieving an energy-effi cient building was a key requirement. With their high operational effi ciencies and reduced greenhouse gas emissions, the Gas 220 Aces also contribute to an improved SBEM rating on the project.”
