Editor’s note S

Supermarket systems scrutiny

upermarkets are entering a tougher winter than expected, with rising refrigerant costs and tightening compliance pressures, making the operational basics more important than ever.

T is issue examines three areas where small decisions deliver large gains. John Poole of Refrigerant Solutions outlines how supermarkets can reduce running costs and futureproof their estates by moving away from legacy high-GWP gases. Understanding refrigerant choice, leak-check thresholds, and long-term serviceability is becoming a critical part of strategic planning.

Nicola Cove at GelClear highlights a perennial weak spot: condensate drains. T ese minor components continue to cause hygiene failures, case outages and unnecessary callouts simply because they are rarely prioritised. James Hibbert of GB Controls turns to cold room alarms, where reliability gaps still expose staff to avoidable risk.

In air conditioning, Gary Nicholls of Swiſt clean explains why airside hygiene and TR19 Air compliance now sit fi rmly within measurable building-safety expectations. Meanwhile, Daikin’s Steve Molloy assesses how BREEAM Version 7 pushes designers and contractors towards transparent carbon data and low-GWP refrigerant strategies.

Finally, Ranald Stewart of Klima T erm reminds operators that humidity control is oſt en the missing link between effi ciency, resilience and manageable electrical demand.

I hope you fi nd this issue informative and interesting. 2027 LORDAN_Layout 1 18/11/2020 14:31 Page 1 A Visit us at Chillventa Hall 6, Stand 330 LORDA N ORDAN
