DRIVES, CONTROLS & MOTORS FEATURE ADVANCED, COMPACT 36V MOTOR CONTROLLER
Curtiss-Wright Corporation’s Industrial division has introduced a 36V version of the C3 motor controller to its cost- effective range of PG Drives Technology branded AC motor controllers. The C3-36V which will carry the PG
Drives Technology name (a specialist brand in the supply of electronic controls for floor-care machinery) is designed for compliance with international floor-care standards including EN 60335-2-72. Operating from a 36V battery supply, the C3-36V is an advanced, compact, AC traction controller for ride-on cleaning machines. Constructed using UL approved materials throughout and designed to comply with UL 583, the controller is equally suitable for other small, ride-on vehicles operating from 36V batteries. Simple programming enables the
C3-36V controller to be compatible with all types of AC induction motors. It accepts multiple throttle and brake pedal types including 2- or 3-wire resistive and voltage. CANopen hardware is provided as standard, offering vehicle OEMs maximum input flexibility. To ensure maximum efficiency the
C3-36V uses an intelligent Hill-Hold function that only takes power from the

Simple programming enables the C3-36V controller to be compatible with all types of AC induction motors
battery if the vehicle starts to roll. As soon as the system detects that Hill- Hold is not required, no further power is consumed. Traditionally, application of a brake switch has been necessary to provide this function. The C3-36V controller uses innovative construction methods to ensure reliable and repeatable assembly of the electronic enclosure, resulting in consistent protection of the electronic circuits from the environment and efficient transfer of heat to the baseplate.

Drive lifetime is prolonged with a service from ABB whereby certified engineers analyse the performance and condition of the drive on-site and provide detailed diagnostics and maintenance recommendations for the end user. Drive Health Check for ABB’s ACS607 and ACS800-07 drives offers detailed measurement and inspection which takes place during planned shutdown. The current condition of the drive is assessed and recommendations given for short- and long-term maintenance. Drive Stress Check for ACS800 and ACS880 single drives and multidrive modules requires no shutdown and can be performed during normal operation. The stress status of the drive resulting from harsh environments or heavy-duty applications is identified and recommendations provided to mitigate their effects. The service helps to inform operators of exactly what is going on inside their drive and arm them with the knowledge to ensure that it continues to run at optimal efficiency. As part of the service the drive will be registered with ABB, giving customers access to its worldwide service network.
