FEATURE TEST & CERTIFICATION
PREPARING FOR the Paris Agreement
The landmark Paris Agreement, from the international Paris Climate Change Conference in December 2015, is designed to limit the global temperature rise to no more than 2°C and has been adopted by 195 nations. Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems have an important role to play in achieving this goal

missions control systems with measurements down to ‘parts per
billion’ (ppb) and ‘parts per trillion’ (ppt) are employed as part of the process control systems of large scale power generation for domestic use, or industrial plants with their own power source where they help to significantly improve the quality of ‘the burn’ for environmental purposes, controlling and enabling the reduction of industrial emissions – to meet and where possible, exceed, legislative requirements. Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) monitor emissions through the collection of legally required data. Typically, a system will comprise a sample probe, filter, sample line (umbilical), gas conditioning system, calibration gas system and a series of gas analysers. Data from the analysers is continually recorded and reported to ensure emissions limits are met, maintained and lowered. Integrated solutions should encompass
emissions analysis, data logging and reporting, while also meeting hazardous area requirements. Offerings from Servomex also support Relative Accuracy Test Audit (RATA) requirements, used to test the ongoing accuracy of systems to ensure consistency over time. Safeguarding the quality of a CEMS system is crucial for the safety and efficiency of a wide range of industrial processes. When choosing a CEMS solution it is
important to consider whether it is compliant with emissions legislation and whether it has the relevant certification to meet European and International legislation and standards. These include MCERTS (UK Emissions Approval); TUV (European Emissions Approval); EPA 40 CFR 60 compliance and EPA 40 CFR 75 compliance. The United Nations Paris Agreement is
the first ever universal, legally binding global climate deal. It is a global action plan with a long term goal to limit global
Analyser System Integration service launched
Yokogawa Europe recently introduced a new service in the form of Analyser System Integration (ASI) with the aim of helping project owners to simplify their supply chains by dealing with a single team for all their analytical requirements. Commenting on the launch of the new service, Loek van Eijck, business
unit manager, analytical solutions at Yokogawa Europe, said: “The service responds to a growing market demand within the chemical, oil & gas industry, and increasingly in other process industries, to simplify project management of both new installations and renovations. We will be working with our own analysers and those of third-party manufacturers, but it makes sense for project owners and primary contractors to deal with a single integrator of analytical systems, and for that integrator to be a supplier of instruments being installed.” Yokogawa’s ASI service, which is based in Spain, guarantees access to

design and implementation engineers with a high level of qualification and certification. The project management team is fully certified by Project Management Professional (PMP), while the engineering team designs solutions to the explosion-proof standards specified by ATEX, IECEx and all other relevant standards bodies, making design compliance easier to prove.
The service provides a full analytical services life cycle from design, fabrication and manufacturing to installation, on-site services and training. Yokogawa ASI also links to other services provided by Yokogawa in its Asian and US divisions providing customers with global coverage.
Yokogawa Europe’s new ASI service is set to
provide a simplified supply chain for the analyser needs of major process engineering projects, ensuring quality of design and implementation, together with reduced project risk and cost, all backed by Yokogawa’s enviable reputation for quality. Yokogawa

warming through a five-year ambition cycle with a transparency and accountability system. From 2023, governments will come together every five years for a 'global stock take' based on latest science and implementation progress to date. Having the ability to provide the best possible emissions monitoring data, through the most reliable and accurate measurement has, therefore, never been more important. Increasingly, industries are set to be scrutinised more closely to ensure their emissions are continually meeting the international standards set by the Agreement. Now is the time to look more closely at a CEMS solution.
