Metal midsoles in

safety footwear Should you doubt your protection?

W

hen utilising a wide variety of machinery and equipment in the workplace, the use of

Personal Protective Equipment is paramount in helping to keep workers safe. However, despite PPE having the required EC type approval and CE mark, recent tests have indicated that some of the products you assume to be safe, may not be fit for purpose

An example of this has been identified at Arco’s

Product Assurance Laboratory where the chromium content of metal midsoles in 14 Class 1 footwear products was tested. 7 of the 14 products were found to contain less than 0.2% of chromium. Carbon steel inserts containing low levels of chromium may pass an initial puncture resistance test, but are likely to corrode over time especially if the sole of the footwear has been penetrated. This can then pose significant risk to the wearer who would be unaware their midsoles are no longer compliant or fit for purpose.

Its compact size hosts a wealth of new future-proof technology but still offers the same tried and tested features that have set the doseBadge apart since its debut in 1996.

Wireless crane operation with Demag infrared control T

The latest model has a wide range of new USPs including: increased wireless technology so the doseBadge can be connected via a mobile phone or App on a IOS or Android controlled device; with information being downloaded even quicker using this Bluetooth type of technology. The reader unit is now even more slimline boasting detailed data-logging facilities that can be specified down to the second, rather than the previous one-minute window. erex Material Handling’s new generation of Demag DIR infrared (IR) remote controls provides crane operators with a viable alternative to conventional radio controls. One of the principal advantages of the Demag DIR system

over radio controllers is said to be the considerably shorter range, of some 40 metres between the transmitter and sensor(s), which is of benefit when the operator wants to limit the distance at which the crane can be controlled, for safety reasons.

This specifically limited range ensures that operators are always in close proximity to the equipment, providing a clear view of the lifting and moving process. There is no risk that the IR control system will be influenced or impaired by radio systems and the IR offers no potential for interference with other radio controls

Hi-Line condensate cleaners T

ensure full legal compliance

he ConSEP range of oil/water compressor condensate cleaners, manufactured by Hi-line Industries Ltd, offer not only a very compact and efficient way of dealing with compressor condensate, but these products are also fully compliant with the ‘1991 Water Resources Act’. During the compression process air is compressed to typically 7 bar, which provides an eight fold greater water loading than conventional air at normal atmospheric pressures. This additional moisture is then also processed out to become condensate from the dryers and filters, but this condensate also contains droplets from the compressor oil, which together cause a toxic cocktail. However, the Hi-line ConSEP range of condensate cleaners treat the condensate with flocculants and activated carbon in an adsorption phase. This purifies the condensate, so providing a clean water solution which is clean enough to supersede local water authority regulations which stipulate a contaminant content of less than 5mg/litre.
