Harwin launches secure, space-saving Gecko Screw-Lok 1.25mm pitch connector for harsh environment applications
A
brand new evolution of the award- winning Gecko 1.25mm pitch connector series was launched at
Electronica from Harwin, the leading hi-rel connector and SMT board hardware manufacturer. Gecko (G125 series) connectors are low-profile, dual row cable- to-board and board-to-board interconnects which save PCB real estate and weight in high reliability applications. Developed to meet customer demand, the new Gecko Screw-Lok Series features ruggedised screw fixings for increased security and can withstand repeated mating cycles without damage. Up to 45 per cent smaller than Micro-D connectors and up to 75 per cent lighter, Gecko SL delivers high reliability with a smaller footprint and increased flexibility for design engineers. Gecko-SL connectors feature Harwin’s patented single piece 4-finger beryllium copper female contact - the heart of the whole Gecko product family – and withstand high vibration, shock and extremes of temperature ensuring optimum electrical performance and durability under harsh conditions. Robust stainless steel fixing hardware provides corrosion
resistance against salt spray and humidity. Gecko SL connectors have captive screws with Hex socket heads to prevent slipping during assembly and a “mate before lock” feature for fast assembly and increased usability. Strain relief is ensured through board mount fixings. Further features include identification of the No 1 position for fast visual inspection. Gecko SL connectors are available in female and male vertical through-hole and surface- mount variants.
Gecko SL contacts are rated to 2.8A individually, 2.0A for all contacts simultaneously. Able to withstand 1,000 mating cycles, they are ideal for long life or “fit and forget” applications, in operational temperatures of -65degC to +150degC. Gecko SL connectors are rated to withstand 20g vibration and Z axis 100g 6m/s shock, with no discontinuity greater than 1µs, Z axis 100g. Gecko SL connectors are manufactured from environmentally-friendly materials and are lead, phosphate and halogen free. Shielded options with machined aluminium backshells are available to deliver enhanced electrical continuity and effective
EMI/RFI shielding in affected applications. The backshells are designed to accommodate flexible metal braiding and are strong and lightweight. Flexible cabling options include complete cable harnesses in
CamdenBoss launches innovative IP68 connector range for waterproof applications
C
amdenBoss, provider of performance engineered interconnection and enclosures, has launched new IP68 waterproof connectors that offer a range of benefits including innovative one-piece construction to reduce the possibility of incorrect assembly.
The heavy duty, robust and strong CPWP3 range features an integrated terminal block design so there are no small parts that might be dropped. This makes them ideal for use in field cable joining applications where losing parts can create difficulties. The compact one-piece construction ensures ease of installation with colour-coded screws/terminals making wiring up easy, while the inclusion of Braille points ensures correct identification of connections in low light conditions.
The CPWP3 range includes three models – a waterproof field assembly T connector, a waterproof field assembly in-line connector and a 3-pole waterproof panel mount connector. Specifications include voltage and current ratings of 250V/16A, contact resistance of 10m, insulation resistance of 500M at 500V DC and temperature rating from -40 to +105°C. Contact/terminal material is nickel- plated brass and size OD (outside diameter) range for the T and in-line connectors is 5.5mm to 8.5mm. For the panel mount connector, minimum wire size OD is 6mm, 10mm maximum. Complementing the CPWP3 range is the CPWPES family of
waterproof assembly splitters offering 3, 5 and 9 outputs from a 3- pole single input. These provide a compact, convenient, waterproof and extremely robust method for connecting a feed cable to several outputs. The 3- and 5-way splitters offer a voltage rating of 400V at 20A and 17A respectively while the 9-way splitter is rated at 250V/10A.
Compliant with EN61984 and CE approved, the new waterproof assembly connectors from CamdenBoss are ideal for all field installation applications.

Data cables for railway applications
T
elegärtner presents a new range of data cables for the rail industry in spring 2017. These M12x1 X-coded
connection cords meet the requirements of the most important standards in the rail industry and have undergone demanding stress tests. They are suitable for networking passenger information systems (PIS) in the rail cars, such as WLAN access points and cameras and other applications for data exchange. These cables in Category 6A guarantee a transmission rate of 10 Gigabit Ethernet and are available in different lengths. The cables meet the increased requirements for fire protection systems in rail vehicles, which has been successfully tested according to the specifications of EN 45545-2:2013.
