When Subcon returns to the NEC on 7-9th June, there are expected to be over 400 exhibitors as well as new initiatives to make the event even more valuable to visitors and exhibitors alike. The event, which is in its 40th year, is dedicated to contract manufacturing supply chains and outsourced engineering services. It covers the complete spectrum of advanced manufacturing, from machining and metalforming, through to electronics, plastic moulding, casting, forging, treatments, additive manufacturing and – with its own dedicated zone this year – composites and materials. This year the event will feature

dedicated zones, making it easier to find key suppliers. As well as the composites and materials zone there are also specific areas focused on contract electronics manufacture, manufacturing software, turned parts (in association with the British

Turned Parts Manufacturers Association), castings (in association with the Cast Metals Federation) and Surface Engineering (in association with the Institute of Metal Finishing). In the international supplier zone, meanwhile, there will be pavilions featuring subcontractors from The Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Latvia, Turkey, India and China. Grant Burgham, business

development and portfolio director for Centaur Engineering Live Events, said: “We have built Subcon 2016 around the things that visitors and exhibitors say matter most to them, so that they can get the maximum value from their time at the show. This is going to be a great event for the subcontract manufacturing supply chain and we are sure that it will deliver real business benefits to all who participate.” www.subconshow.co.uk

COATED CHAIN SPECIFIED FOR ROLLER-COASTER

Renold Chain has supplied an innovative chain solution for a roller-coaster at one of Europe’s largest theme parks. The chain was coated with the

company’s dual-process surface treatment which was specially developed for chain used on theme

park rides and, in particular, water rides. The treatment increases wear life, reduces friction and protects against corrosion. Alec Annand, operations manager at Renold’s UK service centre, said:

“We’re delighted to have been chosen to supply the chain required for this iconic roller-coaster, especially as we won the contract on the key issues of quality, cost, and delivery.”

Spring and bent wire components manufacturer William Hughes has added the latest high performance 3D scanner from Creaform to its range of test and measurement equipment. With the new machine the company’s quality engineers will be able to check components up to 2.5m with speed and accuracy. As well as ensuring that products being supplied to customers are

dimensionally accurate, the 3D scanner can be used to reverse engineer components in situations where engineering drawings are unavailable or have been lost. The scanner can also be used to check manufacturing tooling, thus speeding up development times. www.wmhughes.co.uk
