Building Energy Management System (BEMS). The new system features 60 innovative ModBus Smart Communication Sensors from Sontay, which were installed by Engineering Science and Industry (ESI Malta), one of Malta’s leading systems integrators. The objective of the project was to install a BEMS that could accurately monitor performance and apply predefined operational rules, automatically. It is extremely important for the primary school to have a fully connected system that is able to communicate across all

platforms. The installation was done throughout the building and the school management team is using the project as a pilot scheme. “The Sontay Smart Communication Sensor

was the ideal choice for this project,” comments Trevor Buhagiar, Business Development Manager at ESI Malta. “First of all, the room sensor offers total

environmental sensing in just one single product, which made the installation process simple and cost‐effective. Its ability to send data back to the BMS controller over a BUS network was also an important factor and resulted in eliminating a lot of cabling.”

energised and isolated prior to maintenance. The new LOKKIT6 includes everything to lock off and label Red Spot or similar fuse holders as part of a safe isolation procedure. The kit includes the LOK6 universal fuse carrier lock off, a TAG4 warning tag and marker pen, plus a PAD10R padlock. The LOK6 restricts finger access to live contacts

and prevents the reinsertion of a fuse during maintenance. It’s easily adjustable to fit fuse holders from 20A to 100A. Martindale has also extended its range of circuit

breaker locking off devices. In addition to the LOKKIT1 which includes seven locking off devices suitable for use on most MCBs, fuse carriers and main switches, the extra slim‐line LOK7 is ideal for limited spaces where conventional locking off devices won’t fit. The LOK7 can be used with the full range of Martindale padlocks and hazard warning tags for safe isolation.

Martindale Electric has released a safe isolation video and VIPDLOK kits which include everything needed to implement an effective procedure, stay safe and ensure compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations.

Wieland’s Metalynx2 System makes the right connection at 30 Broadwick Street

ieland Electric’s popular Metalynx2 modular wiring system was the preferred choice for all power and

lighting distribution throughout the recent refurbishment of 30 Broadwick Street based in Soho, Central London The BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rated project

undertaken by BAM Construction was part of a £30m scheme for a new retail and office complex for building owners Great Portland Estates. The project involved partial demolition of a number of existing buildings and reconstruction of a new 130,000 square foot development. Wieland’s Metalynx2 system was specified

and installed by BAM Construction throughout all six levels of office space of the building. Robert Biddle, Project Manager at BAM Construction Ltd commented: “We required a

chosen to be the focus and an Energy Check was undertaken and a comprehensive report on the findings produced. This resulted in an order being placed with Grundfos, based on the savings projected by the Energy Check and also because of the strength of reputation of the suggested replacement pumps. The order included 6 MTRE 64‐ 8/2 and 8 MTRE 45‐2/1 pumps. These MTR pumps are vertical multistage centrifugal pumps designed for pumping of cooling lubricants for machine tools, condensate transfer and similar applications. In addition to the return on

investment of just 18 months, the customer will achieve operational savings of £53K per annum and

industry‐leading reliability for years to come. In fact, so impressed was the

customer with the results of the Energy Check, energy savings of 590,000 kwh/y, that they decided to change the pumps, not only on the original can wash line but on their second line as well.

system that could be delivered to meet our tight deadlines and Wieland’s Metalynx2 system fitted our brief perfectly. Having a system arrive on site pre‐tested and pre‐wired allowed us to maximise the productivity on site. Should any layouts be changed or reconfigured at a later date, the Metalynx2 system provides total flexibility to accommodate this.” Metalynx2 offers a variety of benefits that

include compact design for easy installation through fire barriers and stud work walls and is designed for the efficient installation of lighting circuits and other power requirements that are located above ceilings.

Wago brings intelligence to room automation

W

ago’s FlexRoom intelligent room‐ automation system provides flexible automation of lighting, window

blinds, and room control – including heating and cooling. It can be used to quickly and easily realise energy‐efficient and standard‐ compliant building automation in nearly all office and administrative buildings. Configuration and reconfiguration can be

carried out in‐house, saving time and reducing costs. The system uses standard predefined

hardware and pre‐built software that simultaneously provide sufficient flexibility for building automation based on the spatial axes of a building. A distribution box contains all the required functions for shading,

lighting control and single‐room control for up to 24 axes. Multiple distribution boxes can be networked for full building coverage. All controller components are integrated in the decentralised FlexRoom distribution box and ready for use. FlexRoom is oriented according to room segments – part of a room with a window. Each room segment includes functions for controlling lighting, sun protection and temperature regulation. Walls can be intuitively and quickly moved with a few mouse clicks,

rooms can be re‐arranged, and lighting and shading groups can be configured. To operate all functions in a typical building, four FlexRoom office distribution box variants could be used, with each covering, say, 16 room segments. For information call (0)87 0264 0773 or visit:

ver the last few years, Rittal’s LCP Rack Industry system has proved highly effective in its ability to cool power electronics in switchgear.

Comfort zone for hot converters

Rittal has now developed a new generation of these air/water heat

exchangers with numerous improvements and advantages, aimed at improving its performance for control and switchgear manufacturers, as well as users of the machinery and equipment. Rittal’s Liquid Cooling Package (LCP) Rack Industry has proved highly

effective in providing climate control for whole suites of enclosures. If an air/water heat exchanger is installed in the centre of a bayed enclosure suite, then the resultant cooling air can be blown towards both sides in the enclosure. Cooling outputs of up to 10kW means that even the most demanding climate control requirements can be met, such as those of cooling frequency converters. The 30cm wide climate control enclosure can also be easily integrated

into the Rittal TS 8 baying system. Busbars can be fitted easily

A new, improved LCP Rack Industry system now features recesses to allow the routing of busbar systems and cables. “It means that we are meeting the requirements of our customers,

who want to use LCP cooling systems in bayed enclosures, along with continuous busbar systems,” says Christian Westwood, Rittal’s Climate Control Product Manager. There is space for introducing the busbar system at the top of the

climate control enclosure while, below that, there is room for the N/PE rails. Additional cabling can be added‐in in both positions, which makes the LCP Rack Industry extremely flexible. All this delivers high performance cooling, notably in large switchgear units with full‐length busbar systems.

Placing an enclosure on both sides of the heat exchanger enclosure doubles the impact of the system, enabling the cooling of two enclosures.

Quiet, energy‐saving and UL listed The energy efficiency of the new LCP Rack Industry is also now

significantly higher. The improved system uses EC fans that consume roughly half as much energy as the previous model, to reduce running costs. The fan’s optional speed control also means that the noise level can be reduced in sensitive areas. The new LCP Rack Industry already has UL listing, which means it can be used in the USA without any problems.
