BSEE WHAT’S NEW K

ingspan Kooltherm FM Pipe Insulation is the first system to be evaluated under the

BRE’s new Green Guide ratings table and methodology for pipe insulation, which provides a more accurate assessment of the environmental impact of pipe insulation in‐situ. Kingspan Kooltherm FM Pipe

Insulation system products received the highest summary ratings of between A and A+. This new methodology means pipe insulation can no longer be

assessed against the Green Guide ratings table for flat board insulation. Manmade mineral fibre pipe insulation is not available on the new Green Guide ratings table as manufacturers chose not to supply data to the BRE. The only route to obtain a Green Guide rating for manmade mineral fibre pipe insulation is to apply for a project specific rating. This can be time‐consuming and results are based on assumptions. Kingspan Industrial Insulation commissioned BRE Global to

undertake environmental profiling and certification of Kingspan Kooltherm FM Pipe Insulation. All Kooltherm FM Pipe Insulation products faced with the theatre black vapour barrier jacket received a summary rating of A+. The high emissivity jacket can

reduce the risk of condensation forming when compared with silver facings making it well suited to cold and chilled applications. A

irbloc, part of Nortek Global HVAC (UK) Ltd, a leading European developer and manufacturer of

energy efficient HVAC systems, has developed a range of industrial air curtains ideal for exceptionally high doors. ABX Industrial air curtains provide a barrier of high velocity air that helps block incoming winds and stops warm air

escaping. They achieve this by delivering a powerful barrier of heated air across the entire width of the doorway. Units can be easily fitted within existing or new buildings and are ideal for doorways. Eight models are available, for door widths from 2m to 6m and up to 9m high.

Condair at HVAC 2016, UK Construction Week

ondair will be previewing the world’s first condensing gas‐ fired steam humidifier on

stand 502 in the HVAC hall at the UK Construction Week exhibition, 18‐20th October, NEC. The new Condair GS recovers

heat from exhaust gases to pre‐ heat its incoming water supply, saving energy and making it the most efficient gas‐fired humidifier in the world.

This humidifier innovation is the

latest in a series of new product developments made by Condair, formerly JS Humidifiers, over the last two years. The others, also being showcased at the exhibition, include the Condair ME, evaporative humidifier, the Condair RS, resistive steam humidifier and the Condair EL, electrode boiler humidifier. Visitors to the Condair stand at

HVAC 2016 will see how this investment in product technology has produced arguably the most advanced range of humidifiers available. Features have been developed to reduce humidifier

maintenance, make what maintenance is required much simpler, improve the energy and water efficiency of humidification systems, enhance humidity accuracy and make systems easier to operate and monitor with the latest touch screen control panels. Dave Marshall‐George, UK sales

manager for Condair, comments: “We are very proud to be able to offer a range of humidification systems with features that clearly place them at the forefront of the industry.”

entilation, air distribution and fire and smoke control

manufacturer Ruskin Air Management has launched a free library of Building Information Modelling (BIM) objects to support designers, installers and operators of building engineering systems. The library will be

regularly updated but already holds a huge amount of free to download data on fire and smoke control dampers that engineers can directly incorporate into their BIM models. BIM enables better internal

management of technical data and the integration of multiple data sources in one place. It helps ensure buildings perform as close as possible to their design intent throughout their operating life and gives facilities managers unprecedented access to product information to help with ongoing operation, maintenance and replacement.

Ruskin’s 3D objects include key

data defining each product’s physical characteristics, materials and properties. The objects can be directly incorporated into BIM models and form part of virtual 3D designs to help construction and installation teams identify any potential ‘clashes’ so they can iron out problems before work begins. This speeds up the delivery

process, cuts costs and ensures a better quality final product. Ruskin is also encouraging

library users to provide feedback on the usability of the BIM objects to help develop this portal. To use the library visit:

energy and noise performance as well as smart technology that improves the installation process. Working across every new build

sector, from social housing to high‐ end developments, Zehnder has a reputation as a leading supplier and authority on heat recovery systems and is particularly strong position in the Passivhaus marketplace. Looking to build on this tradition

for innovation and excellence and following extensive research and development, it is proud to introduce the new ComfoAir Q range. The next generation of MVHR unit. Simple to install, the ComfoAir Q

range provides up to 96% heat recovery efficiency, making it the most energy‐efficient unit on the

market and providing the greatest energy savings to homeowners and energy bills. The units are almost silent during operation and are currently the quietest units on the market.

A simple, integrated

commissioning wizard and app assists with setting up the system exactly as required. The commissioning process concludes with an automatic system test and confirmation, allowing the new unit to be put into operation easily, quickly and safely. Three sizes available: 350, 450 and 600 m³/h.

How can we make adiabatic systems more energy efficient?

HygroMatik’s HPS & LPS systems work in harmony with Reverse Osmosis water

A

s a rule, achieving clean indoor air means using clean water in

your adiabatic humidifier. Hard water contains elevated mineral content that, when released into the air as steam, may solidify as an unhealthy irritant known as white dust[i]. To eliminate these risks, a

water purifying system used in conjunction with a humidifier is ideal. Ensuring that services are provided to the highest standard, HygroMatik’s products can be used both autonomously, as well as in harmony with one another. By combining the HPS/LPS and WaterLine RO systems, users can combat mineral deposits effectively to provide only the cleanest air to end users.

The HPS and LPS adiabatic high and low pressure nozzle systems for air conditioning and ventilation units are ideal for applications requiring a high degree of hygiene. Offices, clean rooms and data centres are examples of locations where the systems are beneficial to meeting UK requirements . These combined systems offer hygienic optimum humidification and a close control of +\‐1% RH can be achieved without any biocide or chemical disinfectants. With no porous or water storing components, the standing water is effectively eliminated and when not in use, the system automatically empties to avoid contamination. This combination of hygiene, high humidification and very low energy consumption makes HygroMatik adiabatic humidifiers a clean and efficient solution for building managers. Standing alone, these units are a significant step towards cleaner air but together with the WaterLine RO,

The WaterLine RO is a water

treatment system developed to sustainably reduce the limescale fall‐out in humidifiers. Using reverse osmosis, the WaterLine RO applies pressure to the water through a semi‐permeable membrane, allowing only the clean molecules in, leaving the bacteria and contaminants behind. The two systems together are a

real testament to HygroMatik’s complementary product line. The range promises to achieve only the highest quality humidification systems for customers. HygroMatik is one of the

largest manufacturers of air humidifiers and air humidification systems, offering a full range of long‐lasting and easily maintained products. HygroMatik’s HVAC products are now available as BIM objects which can be downloaded directly from its website. Further information on
