Maryland-bred Ponies Win Ribbons at Yearling Futurity photos and article by Kathryn Southard Te 2023 Maryland Pony Breeders Annu-
al Yearling Futurity was held on July 8 at the Equestrian Center of Harford County in Bel Air. Judge Jon Bates of Honeoye Falls, New York, watched 46 yearlings across six in hand classes before awarding the top Mary- land-bred pony to the Hunter Breeder Filly class winner Wynnbrook Aurora (Mystical x Land’s End Cloudberry), a stunning dark bay Partbred Welsh filly bred and owned by Jacqueline Morris of Forest Hill. Te 2023 Grand Championship was
awarded to Picturesque Walking on Sun- shine from six in-hand classes. Tis hand- some palomino crossbred gelding by Pic- turesque Formal Attire out of Honey Pot, is owned by Maise O’Neill of Freeland and bred by Kristy Wilwerth of Warrenton, VA. Shown by O’Neill, Pictur- esque Walking on Sunshine won the Hunter Breeder Colts/Geldings division, was Champion Hunter Breeder and went on to win the Overall Grand Championship. Te Reserve Grand Champion and Welsh Division Champion was
awarded to Boston Run Allure, a lovely gray Welsh Section B filly who was shown by her breeder and owner Paul Maye. Tanks to incredible sponsors and volunteers, the 2023 MPB Futurity was a huge success and lots of fun! Over $10,000 in cash and prizes were awarded this year. All Futurity participants received goodie bags which included a commemorative aluminum insulated water bottle. Division Champions received a beautiful pony bri- dle from Huntley Equestrian, an embroi- dered coolerette, and a bucket of groom- ing supplies courtesy of Tractor Supply of Fallston and Mane N’ Tail. Te top eight ponies in each class received a ribbon and a variety of prizes including embroidered saddle pads, leather leads and halters, gift certificates, horse treats and more! awarded the MPB a $1,000 grant used to enhance the prize money awarded to Maryland-bred ponies enabling MPB to give an extra $50 to the highest placing Maryland-bred in each class and $25 to the next six Maryland-bred ponies. Te full 2023 MPB Futurity Results are
The Best Maryland-Bred award went to Wynnbrook Aurora (Mystical x Land’s End Cloudberry) who is owned and bred by Jacqueline Morris. The filly also won the Hunter Breeding Fillies class.

The overall Grand Champion was Picturesque Walking on Sunshine (Picturesque Formal Attire x Honey Pot) who is owned and bred by Maisie O’Neill. The pony also won the Hunter Breeding Colts/Gelding class and was named Champion Hunter Breeding Yearling.
