MARINE WAVE

MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER

At the time of this writing, the days have been growing longer, which means a few things to all of us living in Atlantic Canada; summer is approaching, we are getting through another iceberg season offshore Newfoundland and the year 2016 is already almost half over! This year has unfolded with many new challenges as well as some opportunities and through it all, everyone at Atlantic Towing has responded with a top notch effort and a “can-do” attitude. Our strong performance year-to-date is owed to each and every person on the sea and shore in our company. With our stellar safety and operating performance, we continue to exceed our customers’ expectations in the delivery of our services. As always, these achievements would not be possible without the efforts of each and every person at Atlantic Towing. We hope you enjoy this edition of Marine Wave as we once again take the opportunity to highlight some of the people in our organization.

This edition praises many careers – both new and seasoned – at Atlantic Towing. In this issue, we say congratulations to George Hill, who has spent over six decades working passionately to help shape the activities of J.D. Irving, Limited in the marine industry, from ship building and ship repair, to designing new builds and reconditioning old assets. You will also get to better know the Myalls family, who also embody long standing service and passion for our industry. With six generations working in the marine industry, they have become legends in their trade. Finally, this edition of Marine Wave introduces you to some newcomers at Atlantic Towing as they start their careers with us.

We also highlight some of the notable achievements that have occurred since our last edition. From the work done by the crews on Atlantic Hawk, receiving the Carpathian Award, to our seafarers on the Atlantic Larch, who completed two very successful tows of ex-Navy vessels from Christobal, Panama, to Liverpool, Nova Scotia. There continues to be no shortage of excellent work done by the team at Atlantic Towing.

Finally, this edition of Marine Wave represents a new and exciting approach for us in sharing Atlantic Towing’s story with our readership. For the first time, we will be publishing Marine Wave in an online portal that will expand our readership and share Atlantic Towing’s story with readers inside and outside our industry. With this new format and use of technology, everyone will now be able to read the current and all past issues, while having access to additional content with added media options on occasion.

Happy reading and thanks again for all of your efforts. Let’s continue to work towards having a safe and successful 2016.

Sincerely yours, Hull of exProtecteur docked in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.

Gilles Gagnon General Manager
