GOOD VEGET
Plant peas in cool weather, as soon as the soil can be worked. Make several plantings every 10 days for a continuous harvest. Plant again in late summer for a fall crop. Plant in double rows 3 in. apart, with seed planted at a depth of 2 in. Cover with 1 to 2 in. of fine soil. Use our trellis for support (See Page 14). For maximum yields, peas should be inoculated before planting. 1/2 lb. will plant a 60 ft. row.
02966 TALL TELEPHONE or ALDERMAN. Has the larg- est pods on the longest vines. Vines grow 4-1/2 to 5 ft. and should be supported for best results. Dark green pods are extra long – 4-1/2 to 5 in. – and contain 7 to 9 large, oval, sweet, green peas. Extra-easy shelling peas have an attractive appearance which remains perfect for several days after picking. Wrinkled. 68 days. (A) Pkt. (1-1/2 oz.) $1.95; 2 pkts. $3.25; (N) 1/2 lb. $5.45; (P) 1 lb. $8.95; (P) 2 lb. $14.95; (P) 5 lb. $34.95.
02930 MAESTRO. One of our earliest varieties and our most disease resistant. Very prolific. High yields of large, sweet peas. Pods are about 4 in. long, with 8 to 10 dark green, large, sweet peas. 02906 DUAL SUPER PEA. If 8 peas in a pod doesn’t impress you how about 12?! It’s not unusual to find 10 to 14 peas per pod under decent growing conditions – and Dual consistently sets double pods! Long pods give peas plenty of room to form and grow to good size. Peas are bright green, sweet and ideal for a variety of fresh and cooked dishes. 66 days. (A) Pkt. (1-1/2 oz.) $2.45; 2 pkts. $4.25; (N) 1/2 lb. $7.95; (P) 1 lb. $12.95; (P) 2 lb. $19.95; (P) 5 lb. $49.95.
ABLES Q
PEAS - Produced from Carefully Bred Stock Seed. Culture.
02920 LITTLE MARVEL. Combines extreme earliness with exceptional productivity. Consis- tently one of our best sellers. Peas stay in perfect condition on the vine, so picking time is not so critical. Compact, dwarf vines grow only 18 to 20 in. tall and never need to be staked. Dark green, nearly round, blunt pods are 3 in. long and packed with 7 to 8 large, deep green peas. Peas are soft- skinned and shell very easily by hand. One of our best all- purpose peas. Equally good if used fresh, canned or frozen. Wrinkled. Only 58 days. (A) Pkt. (1- 1/2 oz.) $1.95; 2 pkts. $3.55; (N) 1/2 lb. $5.45; (P) 1 lb. $8.95; (P) 2 lb. $13.95; (P) 5 lb. $31.95.
02980 WANDO. Will tolerate extremes in temperature bet- ter than all other varieties. When other peas fail to bear under hot growing conditions, Wando continues to do well. Plant a little later in the season for an extended harvest. Will still be producing in Au- gust when others have wilted in the heat. Deep green, well-filled, 3 in. pods with 7 to 8 plump, sweet peas. Also tolerates cold weather well. Vines grow 28 to 30 in. tall. Excellent for canning and freezing. Wrinkled. 67 days. (A) Pkt. (1-1/2 oz.) $1.95; 2 pkts. $3.55; (N) 1/2 lb. $5.45; (P) 1 lb. $8.95; (P) 2 lb. $13.95; (P) 5 lb. $31.95.
02918 LINCOLN. An old-timer originally introduced by Shumway’s well over 50 years ago and still one of the best for freezing. Medium-sized pods, about 3-1/2 in. long, filled with 8 to 9 medium-green, small succulent peas. Produces peas well into the hotter June and July weather. Compact 28 in. vine. Excellent freezing qualities. Wrinkled. 67 days. (A) Pkt. (1-1/2 oz.) $1.95; 2 pkts. $3.45; (N) 1/2 lb. $5.45; (P) 1 lb. $8.95; (P) 2 lb. $14.95; (P) 5 lb. $34.95.
02996(X) PEA COLLECTION. One Pkt. each of Little Marvel, Wando, Green Arrow, and Super Sugar Snap. Just $6.50.
02910 GREEN ARROW. Our most popular variety. Most peas in a pod, and easier to pick than most va- rieties. Long, 4-1/2 in. pods with 9 to 12 peas in each. Easy to pick because the pods grow in pairs on the upper half of the vine. These high yields come with a bonus of exceptional sweetness. Vines grow 24 to 28 in. and benefit from stak- ing. Resistant to Downy Mildew and Fusarium Wilt. Wrinkled. 68 days. (A) Pkt. (1-1/2 oz.) $1.95; 2 pkts. $3.55; (N) 1/2 lb. $5.45; (P) 1 lb. $8.95; (P) 2 lb. $13.95; (P) 5 lb. $31.95.
02902 EXTRA EARLY ALASKA. Our earliest variety and the standard for smooth-seeded peas. Ideal to plant where summers are short or extremely hot because it has finished producing before the hot weather starts. Peas all ripen at the same time, so picking and freezing are easy. Short, light green pods, 2-1/2 in. long, tightly packed with 6 to 8 small, round, green peas. Vines grow about 30 in. Wilt resistant. Smooth – will not wrinkle in salads. 55 days. (A) Pkt. (1-1/2 oz.) $1.95; 2 pkts. $3.55; (N) 1/2 lb. $5.45; (P) 1 lb. $8.95; (P) 2 lb. $13.95; (P) 5 lb. $31.95.
Laxton’s Progress

Flavor is fresh and very sweet. Early to set, fre- quently setting two pods per node. Disease resis- tance extends plant life. Intermediate vines grow 2 to 3 ft. 58-62 days. (A) Pkt. (1-1/2 oz.) $2.55; 2 pkts. $4.55; (N) 1/2 lb. $7.50; (P) 1 lb. $12.95; (P) 2 lb. $19.95; (P) 5 lb. $41.95.

Plants are about 28 in. tall, with many double pods – resulting in nearly twice the yield of our very popular Little Marvel. Dark green pods near the top of the vines. Wrinkled. Early. 64 days. (A) Pkt. (1-1/2 oz.) $1.95; 2 pkts. $3.55; (N) 1/2 lb. $5.45; (P) 1 lb. $8.95; (P) 2 lb. $13.95; (P) 5 lb. $31.95.
9. The leading early, large-podded variety. Superb flavor. The 18 in. plant is extremely vigorous, producing large pods about 4-1/2 to 5 in. long, each filled with 7 to 9 tender, plump peas. No need to stake. Wrinkled. 58 days. (A) Pkt. (1-1/2 oz.) $2.15; 2 pkts. $3.55; (N) 1/2 lb. $5.45; (P) 1 lb. $9.95; (P) 2 lb. $13.95; (P) 5 lb. $31.95.
