Its name translates as ‘turret of the lake’, a reference to the submerged 9th-century Moorish fort in western Sicily’s Lago Arancio that only reveals itself when the waters recede in the very hottest years. Only then does winemaker Leonardo Urso produce his ripe, ink-black blend of plummy Nero d’Avola, juicy Shiraz and soft Merlot.
