Lost then lucky ... when our Buyer Davy popped his head around the door he found Sicilian hospitality at its best
Off the tourist track in Sicily’s west is Cantina Siciliana, a destination restaurant for foodies and where winemakers gather for suppers.
Food comes slowly, prepared by chef Pino Maggiore (an old-school Sicilian with just a few words of English) and every mouthful has the tastebuds dancing.
The wine list is something to behold – it has to be, as so many top winemakers dine here!
This is no ordinary house and neither is their red ... it’s a tough crowd and all stops are pulled out to impress
So when the celebrated chef teamed up with salt-of-the-earth winemaker Peppe Pellegrino to make a wine bearing the restaurant’s name it was always going to be a cracker.
Rigorous fruit selection, patient winemaking, no expense spared, even some ageing in oak barrels ... unheard of at £7.99 but then Peppe is showing off here!
And Peppe wowed our Buyer, Davy, when he called in to the restaurant (for directions!). After a hospitable glass of their ‘house’ red, the text messages started to fl y:
