Village. We noticed that they meet up in order to swap services with eachother (e.g. some tax advice in exchange for some web design), share information and experiences, promote their businesses and build their commercial network. This works well, but is limited by space. We wanted to take those business processes and put them onto a digital platform where thousands of small businesses could participate.
IBS Journal: What has been your smartest move?
CS: My smartest move hasn’t necessarily been picking a particular job or company, it has been
recognising deeply what motivates me, and in turn what I’m best at, and dedicating my working life to that end. And of course that thing is creativity in a value driven business context, or what is currently known as ‘innovation’.
IBS Journal: What was your biggest challenge/setback?
CS: My biggest setback was working for close to two years on a very significantly sized M&A deal which was pulled by the Board of our counterpart just as the pen was about to hit the contracts to sign. While at a practical level I was able to return to work as normal, at a more
fundamental level it took me some time and reflection to work out how to successfully put the pieces of the remaining business back together.
IBS Journal: Where do you want to be in five years?
CS: Hopefully I’ll be in a position to look back on some fantastic successes for the companies that are part of the Proquo network and still be thinking of new ways to serve them.
September’s Startup of the Month: Thought Machine (also see this issue’s News section for more details).
