The Intertwine Alliance works to connect people and nature

The Intertwine Alliance is at the center of the Portland-Vancouver region’s movement for parks, trails, and natural areas. The coalition of private firms, public agencies, and nonprofits includes 28 differ- ent organizations that manage parks and trails in the Portland, Oregon, and southwest Washington region.

Key initiative areas include active transportation, conservation, and environmental education, as well as making the region more attractive to new businesses. The Intertwine works to ensure the region’s trail network gets completed, that natural areas get restored, and that people of all ages discover they can enjoy the outdoors near where they live.

The Alliance works together to tap new sources of funding, better leverage existing investments, and more fully engage residents with the outdoors and nature. It strives to use a collective impact approach in its work. Collective impact is the commitment of a coalition of organizations from different sectors to a common agen- da for addressing a complex social or environmental challenge.

Another popular effort of the Intertwine Alliance is a website portal that provides comprehensive information on the Portland- Vancouver region’s trails, parks, and natural areas. The website has three major features:

includes all of the publicly accessible trails, parks, and natural areas in the four-county Intertwine region;

 residents with good starting points to get outdoors;

 to preserve, restore, and grow the regional network of trails and park lands.
