Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Marion, South Dakota Randell J. Maass, Pastor Our church has increased its focus on

visitation with Pastor of Outreach Jesse Walhof and Pastor Maass visiting homes in Dolton and the surrounding few miles between the church and Dolton. Tese visits were intended to build relationships and introduce people to life in Christ. Our pastors were able to assist a homeless family living in the Marion City Park to find work and housing. Te Annual Harvest Mission Sunday

(Nov. 1) exposed us to the needs of the local poor. Giſts included food items for the local ministerial Tanksgiving baskets and diapers for the Volunteers of America in Sioux Falls. Our church hosted the Advent Service

for the Marion area churches. Te Adult Sunday School began the Max Lucado study “Ten Men of the Bible” with each couple leading a study of one person who changed the world. A recent study on giving helped us

know how to be discerning as we give to charities and how to evaluate the benefits of various ministries. Our aim is to assist people in helping themselves as much as possible and to discern between chronic and crisis needs. Of most importance, we strive to form relationships so that we may introduce others to Christ. Te annual service of Scripture and

Carols on Dec. 27 included eight scripture lessons by Pastor Maass plus music by the Charles Duerksen family interspersed with carols by the congregation. Evelyn Duerksen, Correspondent

10 With the help of two gracious farmers,

we took photos of children and youth dressed as Christmas story characters alongside live donkeys and sheep. Ten in the Christmas Worship Service on Dec. 20, the Christmas story was narrated from a children’s book and illustrated by the photos of our kids. Our church has already sent two mis-

sion teams out. In January Pastor Greg and three of our elders travelled to Cuba with Avant Ministries. Seven families traveled to Mexico in February to build a home in partnership with YWAM Homes of Hope. Marilyn Friesen, Correspondent

Grace Evangelical Bible Church

Abbotsford, British Columbia Ryan Peixoto, Pastor As a follow up to our outreach Christ-

mas Dinner, we held an informal family event on January 10 with Chinese food, movies for the kids, and table games. Te well-attended evening included several new individuals. Great connecting happened. Riley, a young man from Grace, was in

a major car accident in mid-October and experienced life threatening injuries. His family does not attend church, so this has been an amazing opportunity to not only pray for our beloved Riley, but to reach out to his family. Te church family has blessed Riley’s family with meals, baking, giſt cards and gas cards during these many months that he has been in the hospital. Te congregation also provided two huge giſt baskets to the medical team that has been providing excellent care for Riley as a way of saying thank you. We are excited to hear the updates — in spite of brain injuries, Riley is beginning to walk and carrying on conversations! God has truly worked a miracle. Brenda Janzen, Correspondent

Luster EMB Church Lustre, Montana John Skillman, Pastor Pastor Bill Sykes from Forsythe, Mont. spoke at our October Harvest Festival. Bill’s

messages reinforced our conference vision — that we become a proclaiming people. Baskets filled with cookies, baked good

and fruit were given to neighbors during the holiday season. Church members also packed a large number of shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. “Te Rose” was the title of our Christ-

mas Program presented Dec. 20. Different colored roses, symbolizing Jesus, Rose of Sharon, were brought up front by the chil- dren as the narrator explained their signif- icance. Roses were interspersed by musical selections from the choir and other groups. At the end of the program, the children gave the fragrant fresh roses to their parents and teachers as appreciation giſts. Pastor John and Sharon Skillman

were honored in August for their 25 years of pastoring in Lustre. Tey received an expense-paid trip to quaint and historic Medora, No. Dak., where they enjoyed Pitchfork Steak Fondue; a musical in the large outdoor amphitheater; and rest in the Badlands Motel. Sharon Skillman, Correspondent

tation of their visit with their daughter, Joanne, a missionary nurse serving with AIM in Kenya. Former Youth Pastor Ron Friesen
