I spoke to someone in Panama recently, who said that one of his clients’ names was revealed in the Panama Papers. That lady’s son was murdered because of the wealth that she has.

Avoiding reporting to evade taxes is illegal. As is assisting people in that unsavoury pursuit. People go to gaol for those activities… Every person has the right to minimise the amount of data flowing to others, including to the government, provided doing so does not violate any laws. Non-US persons who truly want to keep their financial information private under FATCA have no difficulty doing so legally.
