French inheritance
FRANCE IS A SO-CALLED schismatic (scissionniste)
jurisdiction. French civil law takes into account the existence of the civil succession laws in jurisdictions other than France in which succession assets are located. Under those rules, if the last domicile of the deceased is France, French civil law will apply to movables worldwide, French-situs immovables, and immovables located in jurisdictions other than France, the domestic laws of which contains a renvoi rule that designates the law of last domicile as the law applicable to the said immovable.

I AM GOING TO ASK ROBIN IF HE HAS HIS IPOD on him… He could give me that iPod; that would
be a valid gift from Robin to me – and very kind – but I wonder if the stuff on Robin’s iPod is capable of being given? The answer is, not necessarily. The stuff that Robin has bought from iTunes – millions of pounds’ worth I am told – is actually personal to Robin. He does not own it; he has a licence to use it for his lifetime, but he cannot give it to me. If I go into Robin’s iPod, perhaps pretending I am Robin, then that is going to be quite risky. That all sounds ridiculous. There was a lady in England who bought every single Disney film on iTunes for her grandchildren and then discovered she did not own them. She was cross… But it is a serious point. You cannot leave it if you do not own it!
