Gil Hanse to transform ROYAL SYDNEY

Rio Olympics golf course architect Gil Hanse has been appointed by the Royal Sydney Golf Club to devise a master plan for the club’s facilities. The American is to direct the club’s

transformation, which will see signifi cant changes to the course’s design. The club, situated in Rose Bay, around

fi ve miles east of Sydney Harbour, chose Hanse Golf Course Design out of a shortlist of other designers that included the design teams of Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman.

Hanse has designed some of the world's most famous courses, including Castle Stuart in Scotland. Although no specifi c dates or plans have

been announced, the process is part of the club’s wider intention to improve amenities by 2030. Infamous for its dogleg par-4, 18th hole,

the Royal Sydney is one of the oldest clubs in Australia, dating back to the late 19th century. It’s hosting the Australian Open from 17-20 November. rsgc.com.au
