Q

What made you move to the nonprofit sector?

I made a conscious and deliberate move because I believed and continue to believe two things. First, youth-focused initiatives, such as supporting young entrepreneurs, are meaningful work and much needed in Canada, where the majority of our economic development

Prior to this role I had a senior leader- ship role with Black Photo Corporation (Blacks), where I worked for more than 20 years. One of my biggest highlights was when Blacks was sold twice in 22 months, requiring me to work with many professional colleagues on due diligence and acquisition. It’s something many CPAs aspire to and few of us have the challenge to do. In my case, I did it twice.

Q: Describe your leadership style. My leadership style has evolved to knowing what has aided me to be most impactful — to be like a coach and to have a servant heart. I have mentored many employees and my greatest joy is to see others develop and have successes.

Q: Your organization rebranded from Canadian Youth Business Foundation to Futurpreneur. How did this rebranding affect you day to day? When I came to Futurpreneur we were called Canadian Youth Business Foundation and aſter more than 15 years in operation, it was time for a rebranding. A new name and brand was not only to signify what we do and our mission, but also to speak more to the vision of where we are going. It was timely, with social impact and social return on investment becoming more common. From my role as CFO, the rebranding has been a great way to speak to our impact. We are here for “futurpreneurs” across Canada and with funding to support more than 1,000 this fiscal year ending March 31, we are enabling them to launch their businesses, which will create em- ployment opportunities for others.
