2.2 Approach to Protection of Annex I Habitat and Reefs 2.2.1 Wind Turbines
8 Embedded mitigation in the EIA, and now provided for within the DML (Schedules I & J, Part 2, Conditions 9(a)(xii) and (9)(i) and Condition 15(2)(b)), ensures that micro- siting of foundation locations will be employed to avoid Annex 1 reef habitat.
9 Given that the area is not a ‘hotspot’ for S.spinulosa reef development, impacts during the O&M phase are not expected.
10 The following activities can therefore be undertaken during the O&M phase of the East Anglia ONE without further recourse to the MMO:
• Annual wind turbine maintenance; • Wind turbine troubleshooting; • Wind turbine repair; • Blade inspection; • Blade repair; • Blade replacement; • Transition piece repair; • Transition piece maintenance; • Transformer replacement; • Gearbox replacement; • Generator replacement; • Paint and repair; • J-Tube and ladder cleaning.
11 With regards to paint and repair and J-Tube and ladder cleaning, adherence to Condition 7 of the DML will ensure that all chemicals used are approved and all storage areas are appropriately bunded.
2.2.2 Cables 12 The following activities need to be considered:
• Additional cable laying; • Cable inspection;
