A landscaping Master Plan for improving flow
The IFHE Digest 2016 reported on a Master Plan to improve flow of the National Institute of Cancer. This article discusses an update to this project – looking at three aspects that have now been performed.
The Master Plan of landscaping from architects Luz Marina Morales and Carolina Salazar of CM, Limited Partnership (SAS) group, forms part of the general concept to update the outdoor areas in the buildings of the Institute. The master plan of landscaping
adopts as its main idea the following aspects: l Restoring and rearranging the environment of the administrative building, built in 1934 as Instituto de Radium (Radium Institute), which was declared by the government as a heritage building of cultural interest. Due to the disorganised growth of the Institute, the building has lost its essence of a historical building.
l Creating a green communication axis between the heritage administrative building and the new outpatient services building improves the visual relationship with the Hospital Materno Infantil, which is also a heritage building.

l The easy-access terraces are used as areas for reflection and rest for patients, family members, medics and officials.
Sergio Luis González González Sergio Luis González González is Manager of SERGO LTDA
which is dedicated to design and construction, specialising in
the health and education sectors. He studied at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (National University of Colombia) in
Bogotá, obtaining the title of Architect on February 8 of 1974. He performed postgraduate studies at the Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona, Spain, obtaining the title of Doctor in
Architecture, with Cum Laude Distinction, on February 15 of 1980, with emphasis on Theory of Architecture.
He is a member of the Colombian Society of Architects, the
Colombian Association of Hospital Engineering and Architecture ACAIH and the Colombian Society of Planning SCP.
Diego Méndez Ospina
Diego Méndez Ospin is an architect from the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. He has always worked in the hospital sector. Initially at SERGO LTDA and he is currently working in
the National Institute of Cancerology, where he developed the project of installed capacity and designs for various services of the INC.
60 In order to implement the designs, the
original constructions attached to the heritage building, along with those which obstruct circulation between the green communications axis and the new outpatient service buildings, are demolished. On the ground floor a green
communications axis is achieved between the heritage administrative building and the new outpatient service building, adjacent to the Hospital Materno Infantil, through the creation of gardens, circulation systems, squares and enclosures. On floors 2, 3 and 8 the intervention in
the terraces is performed through the creation of gardens and rough areas, with the addition of street furniture for the use and enjoyment of patients and others using or working in the buildings. The type of vegetation has been
adequately selected for each one of these environments. The vegetation used in the green
spaces has been selected especially for the environment. In the gardens there will be pino
