Douwe Kiestra The Netherlands IFHE President


Douwe Kiestra Past President of the (NVTG), The Dutch Federation of Technical Facility Managers in Healthcare; Former Vice President and current President of the (IFHE), International Federation of Hospital Engineering; Member of several Branch Committees. He has many years experience working in the building industry and hospitals.


Darryl Pitcher CEO for Bethsalem Care and GreenBriars Village, Australia. He has many years experience in hospital engineering in the public and private sectors. He is a past President, Institute of Hospital Engineering, Australia. (IHEA). Previously he oversaw a ‘revamp’ of the IHEA website and The Australian Hospital Engineer journal.


Marcello Fiorenza Born in Messina, Italy Marcello gained his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1977. Following completion of his studies Marcello worked in industry with time in production, planning and marketing culminating as Facility Manager with Texas Instrument Company. In 1993 he became the Technical and Facilities Manager for Rieti Local Health Authority. During this time he was also Director of Construction for a new hospital built to the south of Rome. Leaving the Health Authority in 2016 he now works as a Consultant in Hospital Engineering. He is a founder member of SIAIS Società Italiana dell’ Architettura e dell’Ingegneria per la Sanità, lectures at Rome University, has been Chairman of nine Health Technical Congresses and

has represented SIAIS at IFHE since 2000. He is currently 2nd Vice President of IFHE.


Liliana Font Architect. Consejo Presional de Arquitectura e Ingeniería, Buenos Aires, Argentina (CPAU); Sociedad Central de Arquitectos (SCA). Liliana is founder partner of AFS


ARQUITECTOS S.C., architectural office which specialises in hospital planning. She is a founder member and past


president of Asociación Argentina de Arquitectura e Ingeniería Hospitalaria (AADAIH) and was president of the AADAIH Latin American Congresses in Buenos Aires in 1993, 1998 and 2006. She has been an IFHE Executive


Committee Member from 1992-1998, 2000-2002 and 2010-2014; an IFHE Council Member from 1988-2012; and was a member of the IFHE Digest Advisory Panel from 2009-2013.


Gunnar Baekken Gunnar Baekken – Past President of International Federation of Hospital Engineering (IFHE) and a Past Vice President of the Norwegian Association of Biomedical Engineering and a Past President of the Norwegian Association of Hospital Engineering (FSTL). He has also participated in national and international committees concerning Hospital Technology and Facilities management, including the World Health Organisation (WHO). He is currently Director of Non Medical


Supports at the University of Trondheim in Norway. He gained a Master of Science


Marcello Fiorenza Italy IFHE Second Vice President


in Biomedical Engineering from Technical University, Norway in 1978.


Andy Wavell Andy Wavell began his Health Service career in 1966 having completed mechanical engineering training in the Central Electricity Generating Board. Between 1966 and 2000 he held positions of both Assistant and Hospital Engineer and Assistant District Engineer. From 2000 until his retirement in 2004 he was Assistant Director of Estates and Capital Development with Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust. Following his retirement he continued to undertake consultancy work in Estate and Facilities Management. Andy holds a Full Tech Certificate in Plant Maintenance and Works Services, Certificate of the Institute of Works Managers, is an Incorporated Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management. Andy is Chair of the International


Technical Platform holding that position since 2012. He has been an IHEEM representative to IFHE since 2008. In addition he has been responsible for the publication of the IFHE Health Briefings and Digest since 2008. He succeeds his friend and colleague Ronnie Browne as Joint General Secretary to IFHE and is looking forward to contributing positively to the work of the Organisation.
