holes ranging from 120 to 750 microns. The holes are conical in shape, permitting passage of molten polymer while preventing blockage. This design and the symmetrically positioned knives in the drum contribute to the long working life of the tube, the company says. Once cleaned, the tube can be reused. To ensure uninterrupted production, it is possible to operate two HiCon R-type 250 systems in parallel. ❙ www.nordsonpolymerprocessing.com

Piovan’s major emphasis at K2016 will be the introduc- tion of its Winfactory 4.0 supervision software, which the Italian company says has been completely redevel- oped to incorporate all the software and communication protocols required to comply with Industry 4.0 smart factory production. Platform Communication – Unified Architecture (OPC-UA), which means it is able to communicate not only with Piovan equipment but any other processing machinery and present data on any tablet or PC supporting this industry- standard format. The system incorportates integrat- ed functions that allow control of operational parameters, management of factory energy sources, and determination of efficiency levels. It is designed to be flexible and customisable, allowing it to handle plant operations as varied as automotive or medical industry injection moulding through to film and sheet production. Energy monitoring is, for example, supplemented with a number of additional options such as production tracking, remote assistance, line power,

ProTec Polymer Processing will introduce the SOMOS Batchmix XL batch metering unit for throughputs of up to 1,920 kg/h and the stationary SOMOS RDT-200 dry air dryer for moderate throughputs. The company says that the Batchmix XL is suitable for feeding multicomponent mixtures to both injection moulding machines and extruders and is designed to handle up to six compo- nents. It can be equipped with suction conveyors for automatically filling material storage hoppers. The RDT-200 stationary dry air dryer has an effective dry air throughput of 140-300 m³/h. The drying vessels, which are square on the outside and cylindrical on the inside, can be fitted together to form a compact modular drying system comprising up to six vessels in graduated sizes with effective hopper volumes ranging from 50-300 litres. ProTec is also showing its LFT technology. Designed

for a wide variety of fibre reinforcement and polymer matrices, the company says that even the difficult combination of carbon fibres with PP can be reliably processed on its equipment. The system uses a high-performance compounding extruder to allow flexible production of a broad range of individual polymer matrix formulations directly in the process. Recycled material and additional fillers may also be included. The lines are capable of handling fibre contents of up to 65wt% and throughputs of up to 1,000 kg/h. Any conventional thermoplastics or even biopolymers such as PLA can be used as the matrix resin, while reinforcing fibre options include glass, steel, aramid or carbon. ❙ www.sp-protec.com

Rapid Granulator will introduce a new addition to its shredder line-up. The Raptor modular designed units feature the company’s “open- hearted” chamber design as well as a new cutting system and tilt-back hopper. The new models are designed for integrated granulation applications and are offered in 36 base configurations. The company says the units have been developed to offer simplicity for users together with

low cost of ownership. ❙ www.rapidgranulator.com
