Aigle are also very happy to use it too. There are currently about 50 permanent, fulltime em- ployees at Zürcher. As well as the mushroom business, the Zürcher bro- thers are also active in real estate. They plan, construct and sell 30 to 40 houses each year.
Celebration As the anniversaries coincided, a celebration was plan- ned on the Zürcher farm on 13 April 2013, one day after the anniversary meeting of the VSP in Hilterfingen. All the member companies of the VSP, with their staff, were invited. A total of 250 party goers attended the festivi- ties, including myself in my capacity as an advisor to Stadler, Wauwiler and Zürcher. Following the official opening and a word of welcome from Hans Zürcher, the audience was treated to a brief
review of the sector’s history, and a glimpse into the future presented by Roland Vonarburg. He remarked that Zürcher Champignonskulturen is exemplary of the essential technical advances that are a prerequisite for survival. He also reminded the audience that in the past 15 years the company has been flooded three times by the Aare and Gurbe rivers. However, thanks to the expansion of the dike system along these rivers, flooding in the future should now have been ruled out, so that Hans and Martin can continue working without any worries. When the official part of the programme was over, the brothers gave a guided tour of their company. Afterwards there was time for all to enjoy typical Swiss sausages and potato salad, washed down by a glass of wine or beer. The party continued until the sun set behind the summit of the Jungfrau. ◗
