“Suppose, Brother Deacon, that had been your child and you dead,” he would say. For Father Buckner, every suffering child was his suffering child. Each of them was loved by God; therefore, they must be loved by him as well. Indeed, all of us were called by the Lord to care for all of them.


Perhaps Buckner’s gravestone described his ministry – and what he perceived Christians’ responsibility to be – best: “Not one orphan child but all


orphan children.”


The way to live out that calling is simple, Buckner believed: Shine hope into the lives of vulnerable young people, using holistic ministry to transform lives and empower individuals and families to become self-sufficient. Today, Buckner International transforms the lives of children and families around the world.
