through the warm water, T omas gestured to grab onto a nearby rock. He then pointed into the distance where I could spot a few faint, quivering diamond shapes. Stingrays! We stayed still so we didn’t scare them away, and soon they were peacefully gliding right past us.


After nearly an hour in the underwater world of Bora Bora looking at colorful fi sh, anemones, and psychedelic clams, it was time to ascend back into the tropical air and return to the marina.

After settling into your stateroom, head down to the watersports marina on Deck 3 where The Gauguin’s marina staff can fi t you for snorkel gear—yours to keep for the duration of your time on board. Snorkeling opportunities will be abundant, and you defi nitely won’t want to miss exploring the coral that teems with Technicolor marine life in the lagoon on your day at the private islet of Motu Mahana. You might also enjoy paddling through the many shades of blue water by kayak or paddleboard, or navigating the breeze by windsurfer, either at destination beaches or directly off the stern of The Gauguin.


Snorkeling is never permitted from the watersports marina. All watersports are weather permitting, in select ports.
