I wish I’d written…

When I was eight much to my father’s disapproval I spent a summer bingeing on the Famous Five, which is no doubt why he brought home a brand new paperback of Moonfleet. As soon as I opened the book I knew this was something special. I realise now it was the first time I experienced the joy of reading good writing – which is why I would love to have written Moonfleet.

I still love Moonfleet.

Pathfinder (978-1408858172), book one in Angie Sage’s new TodHunter Moon series is published by Bloomsbury, £6.99 pbk.

The

atmosphere and the way you are immediately transported to the Dorset countryside in the mid- 1700s are wonderful. Right from the start, you and the hero are in this together and you just know

Good Reads

Japan Celia Tidmarsh, Hachette Children’s Books, 978-0750246989, £8.99 This book was all about Japan. I was really interested in Japan so found this book very useful and informative. So many interesting facts and I learnt lots about the

country. I liked seeing the

technology in Tokyo with split screen TV which lets you watch two programmes at once!

I

enjoyed reading about the Manga and Comic books as I love those. I didn’t realise how much pollution there was in Japan until I read this book, I even quizzed myself on some of the facts so that I can remember them for when I go back to school. I would recommend this book to a friend and would like to now read about a new country. I rated this book 5/5 stars! Adam Year 5

Frightfully Friendly Ghosties: Phantom Pirates is the last book in the series and this book is about some frightfully friendly Ghosties going on an ocean liner that they won in a competition, but then they missed it! I liked everything about this book because it was so funny and I have read all of the other Frightfully Friendly Ghosties books. My favourite part of the book was when Humpty Bump found the

fear, hope, greed, malice, loyalty and betrayal – all wrapped up in a fantastic story where fate is decided on the drop of a pin from a burning candle, where you are trapped in a vault of dead bodies, double crossed while down a well searching for a secret diamond. And that is just the start of it. What more can I say?

16 Books for Keeps No.214 September 2015

Lauren St John, Orion Children’s Books, 978-1444006476, £6.99

This book is about a girl who rides a horse. The girl has had a terrible life; she lives in a care home with no mum or dad. It made me sad but the book is good and I like the bit at the end because she is happy. Riding the horse makes her happy and I like how the plot unravels and they go on the hunt to find the horse’s old owner. She wants to look after the horse herself and adopt it but her uncle says they have to find its old owner. She finds herself at the Kentucky Derby

with races. My favourite part of the book was when she went to find the horse. I couldn’t stop reading it at bedtime. I liked this book a lot and I want to read more by this author. I would recommend this to a friend and I gave it 5/5 stars! Karla Year 4

Laura’s Star and the Special Pony Klaus Baumgart, Little Tiger Press, 978-1845067779, £7.99

I chose this book because I love ponies. This book is about a little girl that wants to take care of a pony. I liked that she finds a way to take care of the pony. The pony sounds so nice and she gives it a home when it doesn’t have one. I would like a pony and if you would like one or have one already you will like this book a lot. I would recommend this book to a friend and I have done, my friend loved it too. I would rate this book 4/5.
