SHOW REVIEW

The BOHS Worker Health Protection Theatre put a much needed spotlight on the “health” in safety and health. With over 13,000 UK employees dying every year from occupational health issues, these sessions put health issues at the forefront.

With the dangers of lone working particularly poignant at the moment, it was refreshing to see the BSIA Lone Worker Arena covering risk reduction techniques, designed to keep employees safe when in a solo environment.

Finally, the Driver Safety Zone, brought to you by Driving Monitor and RoSPA, showcased the latest trends and techniques for optimum driver safety.

HEALTH & SAFETY WEEK With occupational health rising up safety and health professionals’ agenda, this year’s Health and Safety Week took place at the same time as the show. With occupational health exposures responsible for over 99% of workplace deaths, safety and health professionals can show their support by running their own health week. In celebration of the week, a Health Symposium was held on the 18 June at the Expo, where leading health and safety players discussed health in a panel debate; see the pictures for some familiar faces.

Also as part of Health and Safety Week, the first Women in Health and Safety Forum was launched; due to popular demand, I was fortunate enough to attend the event on the Thursday and was really pleased to have been involved. The sessions were open to both men and women and focused on the importance of communication, a critical skill in the health and safety profession to influence the behaviour of the workforce, it was a really insightful conclusion to my show experience.

PROTECTION &

MANAGEMENT SERIES Safety & Health Expo was presented as part of UBM EMEA’s Protection & Management Series. The Protection & Management Series encompassed five major shows in related marketplaces covering safety, service management, facilities, security and fire.

AWARDS On Tuesday 16th June we also invited the winners of our Tomorrow’s Health and Safety Awards 2015 to our stand to receive their trophies. The Awards were presented by Mark Hanson, CEO of Opus Business Media (Tomorrow’s Health and Safety publishers) to our first and third placed entrants. Health and Safety Giant Arco took first place for their Flame Retardant Clothing, received by Arco’s Product and Procurement Manager for Hazardwear, Richard Sansom (top), and our third place went to Reactec, for their Reactec Analytics Platform, presented

to Nick Molloy (bottom). Unfortunately, Diverseycare, who took second place for their Sporicide Plus, were not in attendance and will therefore receive their award at a later date.

It was a pleasure to meet with our

entrants and catch up with them about their latest ventures and potential product entrants for next year’s awards, and of course to present them with their well polished trophies – I’m already looking forward to receiving the nominations at the end of this year. Congratulations again to all our winners and finalists!
