FIREMARK EDUCATION AND G2G3 LAUNCH FIRE SAFETY
AWARENESS AAPP Firemark Education and G2G3 have launched a new interactive tool that increases landlords’ and tenants’ awareness of fire safety. The new Firemark Education application makes it easier for landlords and tenants to understand risk from fire, risk mitigation options, fire detection and fire alarms.
Firemark Education is a national education programme for landlords and tenants, launched in December 2013 to ensure that those in the private rented sector have an increased awareness of fire protection legislation and their responsibilities.

SICK DAYS In 2013/2014 over 28million working days were lost due to work-related illness. £14.2 billion was the estimated cost of these injuries and ill health resulting from poor working conditions in the UK.
South Wales-based The Safety Letterbox Company has created a product designed to comply with health and safety guidelines in the workplace, in an effort to drive down sickness across the country.
The Desk Safe, is a computer monitor stand which sits in line with the user's eye level, reducing the risk of injuries to the neck and shoulder due to poor posture. The product also doubles up as a secure home for items in the workplace.

launched in partnership with the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA). Working together, Firemark Education and G2G3 are keen to promote the tool to help reduce fire losses and significantly enhance fire safety awareness.
G2G3, Capita’s human-centred technology consultancy, has worked with Firemark over the last year to design and build the new tool. Each participant using the tool is taken through a basic risk assessment, which they complete by identifying hazards, understanding the consequences of fire risk and identifying the remedial action required. Participants are guided through this process using a range of realistic examples. The tool allows local fire and rescue services to simultaneously increase awareness of fire safety and assess knowledge levels.
Sir Ken Knight, Technical and Professional Adviser for Firemark Education, said: “This new application will help to transform fire safety for landlords and tenants. Working with G2G3, we’ve designed a tool for fire
Every year in Britain there are over 200,000 cases of work-related upper limb disorders, such as thoracic outlet syndrome, with an estimated 3.2 million working days lost, and each person taking on average 15.9 working days off to deal with their injuries.
Thoracic outlet syndrome is a common workplace injury, especially in the office environment. It is an injury that can be caused by repetitive injuries such as sitting at a desk all day in a slouched position, typing at a computer. It is extremely painful and can lead to surgery that has a long recovery and rehabilitation time.
Back pain is currently the leading cause of long-term sickness in the UK.
Alison Orrells, Managing Director of The Safety Letter Box Company, said: "The Desk Safe is a fantastic product that provides a secure place to lock away personal belongings such as mobile phones, as well as sensitive paperwork that should not be left out on a desk. This therefore ensures
maximum security in the workplace, which when you share an office with many people, is very beneficial.
"The Desk Safe also reduces the likelihood of sick days being taken due to upper limb disorders, and spinal problems, which is a crucial area of concern in businesses these days.
"Whilst we manufacture over 130 models of mailboxes we are always considering innovative solutions, whether it is a Flaplock which prevents arson attacks via the letter flap, or Desksafe which provides a secure receptacle in the workplace, at The Safety Letterbox Company we are always thinking outside the box."

services all over the country to add to their education programmes and ensure that key fire safety messaging is shared with the whole private rented sector.”
Councillor Mark Healey, Chair of the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “The launch of this app marks months of hard work for Firemark Education and G2G3 – and we’re thrilled at the result. Fire safety training is vital – and this will ensure that landlords and tenants have the knowledge they need to reduce risks and keep themselves safe.”
