residential areas due to safety concerns. For locations that require enhanced visibility or wish to produce even more power, extra solar panels can be added to the streetlight.
MORE THAN JUST A Essex County
Council was one of the first to trial the
switch off scheme, with 70% of the 127,000 council
owned streetlights being switched off at night.
STREETLIGHT What is particularly revolutionary about these ground-breaking streetlights is that they not only generate reliable, renewable power to provide light, but the excess power that is generated can be used elsewhere. These innovative streetlights can consequently become much more than lights. They can have security cameras fitted to improve safety, they can have USB ports fitted to charge phones and laptops, or the excess energy could be used to power loudspeakers at sports games. The applications are endless where these ground-breaking, versatile streetlights are concerned.
It is clear to see that the dominance of the old energy inefficient streetlights are dimming. Local councils must do what is right for its people, and for future generations, by investing in smart, forward- thinking streetlights that can light the way without raising emissions or bills – whilst keeping the surrounding area safe and secure.
