UNILIN WOOD FLOORS PROVE HIGHLY DURABLE
The results of a study by high-quality flooring solutions producer UNILIN have revealed that its consumer brand Quick-Step and property development brand Pergo offer wood floors with excellent durability.
A video of the test process and results premiered at the Domotex trade fair in Hannover, Germany.
Carl Plyson, General Manager Wood at UNILIN’s flooring division, explained: “Along with innovation and design, quality is and always will be one of our company’s key values.
“These test results prove that our efforts truly make a difference.”
The test itself was centred around three criteria: wear, stain, and gloss resistance, with samples of UNILIN Pergo or Quick-Step compared to samples of other wood floors.
To test the resistance of lacquered floors to everyday wear and tear, a castor chair with hard wheels, carrying 90 kilograms, was rolled in circles over the floor samples 25,000 times. The samples were then compared with the UNILIN floor showing no signs of
damage on profiles or surface, while other lacquered floors had visible scratches, small black dots and openings in the profiles.
The second test focused on stain resistance, placing coffee on samples of UNILIN’s and competitors’ oiled floors. About 16 hours later, the samples were rinsed with water and given a rating between five and one, ranging from ‘no change’ to ‘total destruction of the top coat’. The same was done for lacquered floors, using acetone. In both cases, UNILIN Pergo and Quick-Step wood floors showed the least damage.
A floor’s gloss resistance level indicates to what extent it can retain its original finish. To test this, two flooring samples were subjected to the linear abraser test, in which a sponge moves side to side 200 times under a weight of 600 grams. When compared afterwards, the UNILIN floor showed virtually no change in its original finish.

ULTRAFLOOR‘S SPEEDY DRYING HELPS MEET TIGHT
CONSTRUCTION DEADLINE UltraFloor’s Level IT Super30 setting and drying smoothing underlayment came to the rescue when a community needed a quick fix for a church extension in Romiley, Stockport.
The contractors, G J Flooring Specialists Ltd., had a deadline of just three days to carry out the work at St. Christopher's Church on Barrack Hill. Two days were required for the fitting of the engineered oak flooring, leaving only the one for all the subfloor preparation.
Level IT Super30 is UltraFloor's high specification, two-part smoothing underlayment that sets in as little as 30 minutes and enables floor coverings to be laid after only three hours. This makes it ideal for use on projects where it is necessary to carry out the installation in a short time frame, including quick turnaround building extensions and refurbishment contracts.
The concrete substrate area totalled 130m² and the contractor's team applied Level IT Super30 at a 3mm depth, providing a smooth, sound finish for the chosen floor to be laid onto.
Proprietor Greg Jones commented that Level IT Super30 is “fit for purpose” and contributed to an "excellent finish and happy client."
Level IT Super30 can be applied between thickness of 2-15mm and its protein free formulation means it is ideal for use in biologically sensitive areas. It can be used on a variety of subfloors, overlaid with most floor coverings, and is also suitable for use where warm water underfloor heating is incorporated.
Level IT Super30 is available in 20kg bags and bottle.
