Perhaps more fundamental than any of this, however, is that the very nature of the risks the industry

They include some of the current usual suspects, such as cyber, but the growth of topics such as big data and telematics also offers great challenges and opportunities for the industry as does the increasing density of population in certain regions—making the potential devastation caused by natural catastrophes even greater.


One of the related challenges for the industry will be attracting the right type of talent that is able to keep pace with such fast and dramatic changes in society and the risks it faces.


On that note, think talent old and new. It will not be the generation of the recently graduated who will help the industry surmount these challenges, it will be the already battle-hardened industry leaders who are also open to change.


Our piece on corporate longevity should be read with all this in mind. It turns out that there are certain traits that companies that have survived for a long period of time often possess. But, equally, surviving a period of rapid evolution within an industry can often come down simply to good leadership.
